Will the updated/more detailed Golf maps of Approach S70 be coming to Epix Gen2/Fenix 7?

The course maps of the new Approach S70 are more colorful and show tree detail. Will these updated maps be coming to the Epix Gen 2 and Fenix 7?

  • I am sorry - we do not discuss anything upcoming unless officially announced and/or released. (Since we are a public stock traded company.)

  • This is exactly what I want to know as well. It would be madness of Garmin if they didn't do this. I think we should know fairly soon

  • I bought the EPIX Gen 2 last year for around £900 for the AMOLED display for golf. I would be very disappointed if Garmin did not update the maps and new features for this!

That being said Garmin did update the pinpointer and windspeed display on the Epix gen 2 in an update! Fingers crossed!

  • Actually, nothing restricts Garmin from announcing future features are coming.   Most companies actually do pre-announce products and features.   Tesla, Apple, Google, and almost every other company.    Your answer should be written as:

Edited for inappropriate comment: If you continue to post in our forums, please be respectful. Thank you.

  • While nothing restrics Garin from announcing future features, generally only company designated spokes persons can - usualy marketing. Unless Chris is designated as such as spokes person he can't otherwise he can fall foul of NPI SEC regulations and be fired, fined and or jailed. I think Chris was just saying he isn't a company spokes person and thus until marketing/spokes person has announced any particular features - or he has been cleared by them to provide such details - he cannot provide any information he may be aware of to the public as until there is clearance on it or publically announced its NPI (non public info). This is relevant for a publically traded company due to the SEC regulations hence his comment.

Personally this is a good idea whether your company is private or public as providing info that may have to be retracted later can open you up for law suites and thus the message should only ever come from a company spokes person to limit mistakes and ensure a clear concise message. And it can sometimes give away a competative advantage i.e. Chris annouces it will come out to Fenix etc, which then prompts another company doing something similar to launch their product earlier to capture more market.

So absolutely understand where Chris is comming from, and I very muich doubt any info on this would be provided as they will probably want to wait at least 6 months to get sales of the S70 before rolling out a new feature to watches that have already been sold.

Personally I struggle to see the market niche for the S70 now - personally think it could have just been rolled up in the FR965 and Fenix/Epix lines. S70 is similar price to 965 - would have just made more sense to roll it up in that rather than having two such similar ut slightly different tweaked watches. Would reduce costs too.

  • I would also love for this to happen, as my epix pro comes in tomorrow, Id love to see the current s70 golf maps on the epix. Weird for me to see that the golf features on the epix pro is identical looking on the epix pro. What's the point of the watch being "pro" when alot of the features are recycled

  • So what stops Chris from getting the “proper” spoke person from speaking up?   Nothing…. Nothing at all….   So we can only conclude that Garmin is attempting to maximize short term profit over long term customer engagement…. Sham sham Garmin.

  • no different from any other company out there.

And do you really think that Chris in the position he is in is able to get a spokes person to make a call on an issue like - not shaming chris or thinking his job isnt important - just stating the reality is that in the position chirs is in  he has no influence and no matter how persuasive he may be he, he will never be able to get marketing to announce - sure he can raise and escalate up his chain of command - which I would hope and assume he has done as par for the course (would expect his role to include a function like this) - but would suspect that the ability to change/determine what is announced is very limited.

I work in a small large organization over 27000 wordwide and can tell you that within our organization there are probably on 4-5 people if that tell marketiing what they can publicaly release. In any large organization this is very similar, and in most cases the group is smaller. Sure lots more people - probably double that number suggest what shoudl be released, but making the call as to what is released is much much smaller.

So what you are asking for is very unrealistic - hopefuly this can tailor your expectations and reduce some disappointment. As stated I would have hoped that at the very least Chris has passed this up, however we can also help him by making a suggestion using the official methods to request that those features are included on the watch - the more who do so the more likely it will be done if feasible - and if not its likely that they may back channel that detail (which is in my experience as to how bad news is normally passed on - good news in headlines - bad news by back channels).

  • This exact question (times 1000) applies to the MARQ 2 Golfer. Imagine having dropped $2300 for what is literally called a LUXURY GOLF watch only then Garmin introduces compelling golf related software (not hardware) features which are exclusive to a $650 plastic watch. It is painful to see Garmin persist with this kind of SOFTWARE feature micro partitioning, meanwhile Apple gobbles up market share.

  • Don't forget re the Marq you are paying for more than just the golf sofware - there are some pretty major differences between the Marq and the Approach S70 including a titanium case, the domed sapphire lens. I also suspect the Marqs will very likely get the same software updates the Epix will get from the Epix Pro series.

(note that epix does have relaxation reminders - just can't toggle it on/off - its always on; any difference between epix and epix pro - other than flashlight will be resolved in Q3 update though some like load ratio is on current Q2 update, and Epix has always had tempo training so not sure why that is always left off).

So while I can maybe understand a little bit if all you bought it for was golf as it was the "best golf watch at the time", there would have been more than just that reason  as to why you bought that instead of a S62 or an Epix as they all have the same Golf features and thus technically all would have been "the best golf watch". So going for the Marq must have been about its superior build quality over the epix and over the S62 would have been the fitness & training features and the build quality. The Epix and the Marq stil lhave the better build quality and the better fitness and training features - that hasn't changed and is still massive reasons to retain the Marq over the S70 even if the newer S70 golf features never update to the Marq/Epix.
