Is forerunner 965 user interface comming to Epix?

Just saw a DC review of 965 and user interface finally takes advantage of OLED screen. Is it comming to Epix with the next update?

  • I bought a Garmin Epix a month ago because it was the only watch with all the running stats and an amoled screen and I never thought that Garmin would release a new Forerunner series watch with all those updates in such a short time. Now I feel like an idiot, I paid a lot more money for a watch with an inferior interface compared to this new one. It will be unfair for all epix users to not get an update with the same interface. No one will buy epix anymore because of the much higher price, the outdated interface and the screen which is smaller than the garmin 965.

  • You are over reacting just for an UI and a little bigger screen ? It is not too much ?

Epix UI is just "basic" but the features stay exactly the same for all Fenix and Forerunner series.

You can still swimming, biking and running with exatly the same mesurments. A better UI is the cherry on the cake.

Yes, 965 have a 454×454 screen and then ? One year later, it is just a logical evolution, the cost decreased also for this type of technology (but the price for us not decrease on Epix, it is the point...)

Epix have a beautiful design, better quality materials and a Sapphire screen in option. And new features arrived in first in Fenix and Epix by new firmware, except when Garmin launch a new model like 265/965, but features will be arrived.

May be the new UI will be available one day.

Several customers wish Epix X... I don't know how many Epix was sold versus Fenix ? But the story of Epix is more like a special watch, an innovative watch, only 2 generations today. May be Epix will be stopped when Fenix 8 will be launched (but firmware update will be continue)... Because I don't think a Fenix 8 can be survive with MIP screen only, and that's why, it will be have AMOLED screen in option or serie.

And Epix 3 could be coming many years later, with a new innovative technology or improvement (like AMOLED, it seems to be a commercial test of Fenix with this screen, and a real success I think).

No one knows about the sales strategy for the next Epix and Fenix, except Garmin ;-)

  • Just my 2 cents here... Personally I'm happy with the current Epix UI. Really not a fan of the "fancy" look of the 965 and venu-like UI.
Epix UI looks more minimalistic & kind of professional to me. Very happy with that :)

  • I paid a lot more money for a watch with an inferior interface compared to this new one. It will be unfair for all epix users to not get an update with the same interface.

The Forerunner 975, the Epix 3 and the Fenix 8 will all have "superior" UIs and other features and that is unavoidable when we make a buying decision today. Unless we expect technological progress to come to an end. The new processors, new sensors, new screens and new batteries will all permit new and better options.

  • I also feel like an idiot and I’m upset as well. I went with the Epix 2 this past January,  I like it but it is a little on the heavy side, I really wanted the 955 but I did not like the screen. How did I know they were gonna come out with a 965 Amoled so soon after the 955?

  • No one will buy epix anymore because of the much higher price

Forerunner has always been on pair with Fenix from a capability perspective and to a lower price, still Fenix is widely used and users love their watches. There are differences, same as there always has been. Different materials, different ATM rating, different look & feel (not UI)...

  • Fenix 8 will probably have the 5th gen sensor and the outrage will start all over again.

  • actually you aren't getting less battery life - recheck your specs. If all you used your watch for was a smartwatch - then yes its worse, but add in tracking and the Epix actually has better battery life, and when you consider how much more you can cusomtize your epix with power profiles you have even more flexibility.

And that is before you consider the better built quality (sapphire glass, metal bezal and back case, 10atm vs 5 atm; the software features like power profiles, outdoor activities like surfing, kite boarding, windsurfing etc, slightly better nav features, way more golf features, and the fact that support for Fenix line tends to be a lot better than the forerunner line (consider the issues plaguing the FR955 and how long it takes to get major issues fixed compared to Epix - consider how F6 has had features updated compared to the minimal updates for FR945/FR945LTE); and then the style is so much better.

I would still get the Epix today even with the FR965 available.

I realize this isn't going to be the same for everyone, just as some will go for the FR265 or even FR255, but doesn't mean the Epix is obsolete or that there isn't a place for it  or the Fenix 7 as they offer features and battery life that the FR965/FR955 doesn't.

  • An add for all... you speak about 965 but you have forgotten 265 Wink

Look at Forerunner 265, it is 416x416 like Epix. The screen size is not an issue as I could be read in other thread here...

    Wait & see
