My Epix 2 Stainless purchased in June 2022 serves me well. However I am a bit bored of it now and tempted to sell it and get the Apple Watch Ultra. THe only thing stopping me is the battery life on the Apple watch ultra. Any thought or opinions ?

I am still weighing the pros and cons of switching from Garmin to Apple and opinions and thoughts help in this decision.
I came from an AW and was in your shoes before switching so I know…
If you are considering the switch I can only assume you're more of a recreational athlete. I simply can't find a compelling enough reason to make the swap from Garmin to apple on any grounds other than…
so what is it you're seeking with this post - ? You want someone to talk you out of it? Someone to agree with you and talk you into it? You just want to state your plans and get reactions? Seems like just…
"How about I drop you off in the middle of a mountain with an apple watch"
Well if you kidnapped me and threw me out of a plane I guess that would be a *** situation in more than one way.
If you didn't I would of course have downloaded all the maps to the watch and used that for navigation. There are apps for that you know.

Lol

Yeah, that's the problem. Theres 60 different apps you have to have to track things. How about courses? Topo maps? And walking down that big mountain I threw you off, you better be running because it's a 12 mile hike back home and your battery only lasts a day with GPS routing. You better hope that when you get to the tree line at the bottom of the mountain your downloaded maps show you the trail really good since you don't have multi band.
I have both watches on at the moment (and have on and off for a few weeks now) - I love my Epix, but the Apple Watch is almost there to be honest. They're both very different watches, but I think the deciding factor for me is what I ACTUALLY do in terms of sports and needing a Garmin watch versus what is more of a help in everyday activities.
Everyone has their own thoughts, opinions and requirements - to be real honest I got the Epix for the screen so it was more like a regular smartwatch - I feel like Apple is doing a better job catching up as a sports watch versus Garmin catching up as a smart watch
Anyway - I'm still very undecided and I have a bit of fear of taking my Garmin off after having one for seven or so years (I so don't want to lose all my stats and records).
Good luck with your decision - if you hate it you can always sell it and come back to Garmin haha
Non athlete answer.
I would have never bought a Stainless Epix in the first place. The titanium version offers a much better multiGNSS solution.
My Epix is used a lot for navigation and cartography without any smartphone connected or network in range and I use customized maps most of the time.
This is something the Apple Watch Ultra cannot propose for the moment.
Also I'm using Android ...
Now If I was in the Apple ecosystems, the Ultra is really something tempting in terms of pure smartwatch. It would even make me forget my phone in a drawer. The battery on the Ultra is enough for a day long, and I won't mind charging it up daily.
It is a beautiful product with a bold look made of titanium and sapphire (both material which are not present on the Epix stainless and mandatory in that price range).
Another important feature on Garmin Epix is the possibility to use only buttons. This is not something you will find on the Ultra: you will need to validate choice on the touchscreen. The Epix is easy to use thanks to its customized shortcuts and all weather/terrain ergonomy.
So, in the end, this is your choice of usage. :-)
I went from Fenix 6 Pro to Apple Watch Ultra (for 2 months) and just switched back.
What I missed about Garmin / didn't like about Apple Watch:
What I liked about the Apple Watch:
I have both, started with epix and flipped to AWU when it came out then last week flipped back. AWU is a better smartwatch, epix is better sport watch so not an easy one to conclude. At the moment I love the epix but that might be as it’s new. Morning report is superb, I didn’t have that when the AWU came out. Ask me any questions and I will happily try to answer
Great reply, sums it up very well!
Epix is much more robust too
Well I'm switching back and forth between the AWU and the Epix. It's completely true: There is no better "all in one hell of a beast sports watch" like the Epix 2.
But Garmin Connect kind of spoils it for me, since I like to have correct and reliable long term data for calories spend in Apple Health. Not only for long term use, but for using the data in other apps for evaluation and improvements.
And - whatever Connect is synchronizing... I haven't figured out yet, how the numbers where calculated. But it's most of the times exceeding what is in Connect itself.
The AWU on the other hand might not have all that sport and fitness data analytics. But it sychronizes flawless. And is clearly the best smartwatch iPhone-users can buy.
So - the Epix is on sale. Or will remain some kind of comparison device.
Can you elaborate: what is the specific scenario where GarminPay did NOT work, yet ApplePay "just worked"? I thought that (assuming your bank supports Garmin) there is literally zero difference between ApplePay vs GarminPay, transit or otherwise.
