Planning to sell EPIX Stainless and buy Apple Watch Ultra- Thoughts ?

My Epix 2 Stainless purchased in June 2022 serves me well. However I am a bit bored of it now and tempted to sell it and get the Apple Watch Ultra. THe only thing stopping me is the battery life on the Apple watch ultra. Any thought or opinions ?

  • Which watch are you gonna buy if you get bored of the AWU?

  • Hahaha. Hopefully I won’t.

  • Can I ask what specific feature(s) of AWU cause you to make this jump?

  • there are loads of reviews comparing the two watches on youtube - have a watch and have a decide.

To me its battery life and having one eco system that incorporates training metrics and analytics. The Epix has all the smarts I need -  I really don't need the additional smarts the AW offers and didn't really use them in the past except for the very odd occassion. Also now prefer the flexibity and customization of android so am quite happy all around; and prefer what Garmin/Epix offers compared to wear os offerings.

Unless you are going to run an ultra the AWU battery life should be enough, and as long as you don't mind charging every second day, or for 15-30 minutes every day - you should be golden in terms of battery life.

  • Nothing features wise as such. In fact the Epix is more feature packed than the AWU but I don’t use those features. Secondly the Epix looks a bit Samsungish on my wrist even after paying so much for it. I have big wrists and only the Fenix x series really suit me. After using Garmin for the past 3 years I am looking for a change. I had the AW7 but hated it after about a month as it looked very much like any other Apple Watch. The AWU now looks more suited to my wrist and personality and with the better battery appeals to me. Maybe I may switch back to Garmin after a year or so if they come out with anything better and bigger. Also I have a good deal on my Garmin Epix from a prospective buyer so was thinking of taking the plunge. Still on the fence though and still wearing my Epix as I type.

  • Thanks for that feedback Jaamgans. I also checked almost every review and compare of both watches and haven’t still taken the plunge. Will think it over.

  • A few bad things with AW is

    • when run outside on cold days I wear the watch (epix) outside jacket. If do that with AW I need to enter a pin to enter the screen since HR monitor on watch not detect any pulse and locks me out.
    • does not support ANT so not so good with cycling
    • The data is just raw data, no insight as provided by Garmin with feedback on your progress and how to improve. Less data

it all depends on what you do. If it just Gym or causal running or walking without any goals to improve only keep your fitness, then maybe AW might work. For me AW is not good enough for what I need to make progress

  • so what is it you're seeking with this post - ? You want someone to talk you out of it? Someone to agree with you and talk you into it? You just want to state your plans and get reactions? Seems like just wanting attention, to me. Go, or do not go. Matters not to the rest of us either way. Shrug‍♂️

  • I am not seeking attention. The intention of this post was to know if anyone else also thought of the option to switch to the AW and what was the experience. I am still weighing the pros and cons of switching from Garmin to Apple and opinions and thoughts help in this decision.
