To Stryd Users: Stripping Garmin Power from FIT Files

Dear all,

As some of you noticed, Garmin Power (which is recorded behind the scenes automatically when having paired the HRM PRO via ANT+, for example) overwrites Stryd Power when uploading to GC or some third-party platforms (e.g. Trainingpeaks, Strava, etc.).

One solution would be to pair the HRM PRO via BLT Smart but at the same time one would loose Running Dynamics or HRV data from the HRM PRO.

The following workaround works for me:

* Having paired the HRM PRO via ANT+

* Downloading the original FIT file from GC

* Stripping Power Data from the FIT file by using FIT File Tools (FIT File Tools)

* Uploading the stripped FIT file to whichever platform you use

-> Stripping Power with the above Fit File Tool obviously only affects Garmin Power but not Stryd Power

BR, Christian

  • Ok. I maybe found out why it’s working for me.

    I set Activities & Apps -> Run -> Run settings -> Running Power -> Status -> OFF

I set Garmin to only sync with Stryd. The sync with Strava, Training peaks and others is automatically done by my iPhone using RunGap (iOS app).
I did not set anything special in the app. Maybe the app is changing something in the file before uploading it to Strava.

Sorry for the confusion, but maybe a more convenient workaround for those with an iPhone.

  • Thanks for mentioning the possible difference on how you pair the HRM Pro with the watch.  Today I did a test and deleted / re-paired the sensor (via ANT+, as before) specifically using the "External Hearth Rate" instead of "Search all sensors" selector.  Then I confirmed Run Power was set to OFF.

To my **GREAT** surprise, this indeed seems to have solved the issue: I recorded a run and Strava is picking up the Styrd IQ power field AND I have running dynamics and accurate hearth rate from the HRM.

While I am happy for the solution I am kinda disappointed on how obscure this situation is.  It's super unintuitive...

    Anyway, thanks again!

Happy and safe sporting to you as well

  • And indeed, that's what I tried and I can still see the Styrd power and running dynamics as desired. Woohoo!

So yes, if someone experiences the issues I mentioned in this thread then the solution appears to be:

    1. delete and re-pair the HRM sensor (doesn't matter if searching by "all sensors" or "external heart rate")

    2. ensure running power is disabled: Activities & Apps -> Run -> Run settings -> Running Power -> Status -> OFF

    Thanks again!

  • So I unpaired and repaired by HRM Pro, running power is off in Run activity setting. TrainingPeaks picks up my Stryd Power (Avg/Max) but Strava and Garmin show 0. The Power graph is in the Garmin Connect IQ field but why is it not showing the average?

Also, it seems when I use the Stryd WorkoutApp, it still picks up the HRM Pro power... Anyone have the same issue?

    Thanks!

  • Hi OnlyTwo! Thanks for the follow-up. I am currently using a Fenix 7X, Stryd, and HRM Pro, and I'm completely lost in this. It's honestly demoralizing hah! I tried using the runalyze.com tool but it's crashing my browser.

    - I unpaired my HRM Pro and repaired it as an HR Monitor (the connection type is still ANT+).

    - My Stryd settings in my watch are: speed = always, pace = always, calibration 100, and it is connected as "FP - XXXXX" (so ANT+ as per my understanding).

    - I went for a run in "Run" mode/activity on my watch, Garmin Connect picked up the ConnectIQ power field (no average was shown, but that's okay I understand). Strava and TrainingPeaks displayed the correct Power data graphs and average (from Stryd power). My Garmin Power is always turned off in the settings. All good on this.

    - When I use Stryd WorkoutApp (I use it for power-based workouts like intervals), the reading on the watch during my workout is correct (Stryd power), but the final file displays a much higher power output in GC, Strava and TP (presumably this is Garmin Power reading). I've tried having the setting on both "outdoor" and "indoor" modes within the app).

    So my questions are:

    - Should I be using speed and pace from Stryd, or the next Fenix 7X with all-band GPS is better?

    - Should I modify my Stryd calibration value when I am on a treadmill versus outdoors?

    - Is there a way to not have to use Stryd WorkoutApp and only the Garmin activities, but be able to do power-based workouts like intervals?

    - How can I make Stryd WorkoutApp ignore/turn off the Garmin Power data?

    - And finally, why is it that within the Stryd WorkoutApp, under "mode", it goes from "outdoor" or "indoor", to "on" then "off"... Shouldn't this just always say indoor or outdoor?

Thank you so so much for your help.

    Cheers,

    Pascal
