Epix screen flickers when dimming (AOD Display Timeout)

Does anyone notice screen flickering when the display is dimmed? It's really noticeable on watch faces with a lot of color.

I find it kind of annoying as its bugging my eyes a lot when I look at my watch at an angle without triggering the gesture and the screen illuminating with brightness - I do that a lot as it's my main reason having AOD on.

Should I return the watch for servicing? Is it all the same with all watches?

  • Same with 10.xx, 11.xx alpha and now final 11.25

Still flickering!! with custom watchface during dimmed AOD.

Almost a year and not yet fixed.

  • Almost a year and not yet fixed.

We are looking into the issue further. It has no impact on the full functionality of the Epix 2 series watch. We will see what engineering decides and I will update this thread once there is an official response.

Anyone experiencing the issue, the more customers I add to the tracking case, the more priority that will be given to get an answer or a potential fix. Please highlight my name and send me a Private Message if you have not already done so. Thank you!

  • Hello Chris! If this winds up as a non-issue because it's not impacting the main functionality, consider the laugh from the Apple Watch camp. These guys have been doing AMOLED-screen watches for, what, 8 years? I don't recall screen flickering on their watches, no matter the settings, screen dimness, or whatever.

If Garmin customers are paying a premium for the Epix, then any issue with the units should be considered impactful to the product and your reputation as a brand.

Anyway, at least give customers the option to swap their Epix for an equivalent from a price-point Fenix - I would consider a lesser screen with no screen issues than watching this flickering thing on my hand and cursing myself for paying $1000 for it.

  • Hi

I have noticed that the flickering happens just on watch faces, not while displaying the menu contents. Maybe this helps.

  • Yeah, I think that's true - I've tried it on my unit and indeed, the menu contents are not flickering.

  • Thank you to everyone that has been reaching out to me directly through PM. If I had not yet responded, I will respond as soon as possible to you.

After engineering provides an update, I will update this thread.

  • Flickers even with a "Face it" watchface. And "Face it" watchfaces are not dimming. They are either on or off.

Previously only watchfaces from the store which dimmed were flickering.

    My firmware version - 11.28.
