Heart rate on Epix 2 activity WAY TOO LOW

Anybody else still having same issue. Both my wife and I have Epix 2 and built-in HR monitor is wildly off during activities, even just a regular run. There’s a massive delay in measurement and often heart rate is 40 to 50 beats lower than the chest strap. We both tried to wear watch tighter, looser, up the wrist, down the wrist, everything! Nothing! Interestingly, it records well when not doing an activity. So when I go for run without activating activity, heart rate shows 165 when running. As soon as I pick running activity, heart rate drops to 100. Makes no sense. Same in my wife’s. Is this software issue? Sensor issue? If yes, what’s the chance it happens to both our watches!

  • i can understand throttling down on hr accuracy in watch mode HOWEVER, broadcast mode needs to as accurate as in activity. So if Garmin reduces the sampling of HR in watch mode for the sake of battery,  that is understandable. However, in broadcast mode they CAN NOT cut down on accuracy, that is unacceptable. I use the edge to record cycling activities and the epix to broadcast and there is significant error in broadcast mode vs in activity. Garmin need to address this.

  • there is significant error in broadcast mode vs in activity

Are you using the option to broadcast from within the activity?

  • Is there any solution for it today? I have new bought device just two weeks ago, and I am experiencing exactly same behaviour as describe here.

  • I still have the same issue. Low heart rates during walks and cycling activity. Rendering all the great Garmin metrics useless, as they depend on heart rate. Tried Heart rate (with a new battery) strap... still the same problem. I bought the expensive Epix and now it is basically useless.

I have found a non-reliable way to somehow kick the low heart rate  readings back into normal readings, by stopping and resuming the activity during the activity. But it only works sometimes and is not reliable at all.

See the  heart rate chart inserted. I stopped and resumed the walking activity at around 22mins, and in this case the heart rate started giving the correct readings by jumping up a factor of about 20 bpm-  so frustrating. According to this it really seems like it is a software problem that Garmin has to solve ASAP.

  • Agreed , the same happens to me sometimes with fenix 7x solar, and with previous epix 2gen ( both non pro ).
For me it also work to press the back button and go back to watchface, usually i see the HR here adjusting, since then also the activity data screens will be updated.
I have the feeling that when starting the activity, sometimes the hr sensor is 'sleeping'

  • Is it consistently lower? For me, it is wildlly inconsistent from workout to workout, and has been happening, albeit relatively rarely, for well over a year.

  • My Epix started doing the same thing about 6 months ago.  It still does it occassionally, but not nearly as often.  I have not done anythng differently other than making sure it was secure on my wrist and not too low down my wrist.  My software is up to date and I never heard from Garmin on what the underlining issue that causes this.  If it was stil dong it all the time, I would definitely ask for a replacement.

  • I’m having a similar issue since last update.

  • From this graph it seams to be the same issue. It seams to read the movements in heart rate but then jumps by a factor of about 20-30! Don’t know why. But it does not seem like a sensor problem but rather a software issue.

  • The heart rate only jumped when I stopped. I had to stop as I blew up trying to get into my heart rate zone. I was already way past my target zone. From the point of the break heart rate seems accurate but I had already ruined my training.
