Heart rate on Epix 2 activity WAY TOO LOW

Could you post a graph of your recorded HR?

In my case, however, HR also jumps up and down when not recording an activity. It's also very clear in the HR recorded during a Health Snapshot.

I contacted Garmin support, but they haven't come back with a solution.

Before resorting to a factory reset, try a hard reset (not soft). I had a similar problem with my F6S Pro. A hard reset, advised by Garmin, fixed it. Failing that, have a chat with a Garmin rep.

FWIW, I tried to replicate this today, and I couldn't.

I used a Polar H10 connected to the Polar app, but not to the watch. I went for a light jog, and started an activity on the watch and on my phone with the polar app. I made sure that the Wrist HR was aligned with the strap along the run: I had to adjust the strap of the watch to get them in sync, and I ended it up observing 1-2 bpm difference. At that point, I made sure that the wrist HR was aligned for at least a mile. I then stopped the activity on the watch and used the HR glance to monitor the HR. Everything stayed in sync for another mile.

Maybe when you run, the watch is moving too much and the reading becomes less accurate. Again, I had to tighten up the watch to align the wrist HR with the strap HR. Prior to the tightening, the wrist HR was all over the place while running.

I had the same issue today while recording a bike ride with the epix (v.8.18). Although I sprinted and expected my max heart rate to be >170 bpm, the watch only showed 108 bpm max and 100 bpm on average. During strength training, however, the detected heart rate seems to be accurate.

Same here. My Epix2 is on Version 7.35, and is off by -30bpm on average on a high intensity workout.

Furthermore, it does not recognize my external heartrate strap any longer. 

I am having a similar issue as well. I use a chest strap when I work out, after taking it off the watch reads my HR at around 68 when the strap just before takeoff was close to 140 and coming down. After a while the watch would go up to 90 or so but it seems strange it's that low. If I go for a walk it barely registers a change from my resting HR. On 7.35 firmware. 

In the attached screenshot, the arrow shows me reconnecting my HR strap and you see the big valley created (circled area) as the watch was attempting to read my HR.

Tried, soft reset, hard reset, deleting the history folder etc. Waiting to see if new firmware will have an effect. Also adjusted the placement over several days.

Always takes a few minutes for OHR to register heart rate from scratch.

For 7-10 km . at the rate of 7:00, the pulse unexpectedly increases from 115 to 137-145. When switching to the clock, the pulse remains the same. When the belt is connected back, it happens that the pulse decreases again.
