Readability of Notifications - Epix 2 vs Fenix 6x

For those of you coming from the Fenix 6x, could you please comment on the readability of the Epix 2 screen compared to the F6x.

I normally wear reading glasses, but I usually don't when I am wearing my F6x. Accordingly, the readability of the fonts for things like notifications and calendar are very important to me. The F6x is good enough for me, but just barely.

I am interested in the Epix 2, but only if the readability on notifications is at least as good as my F6x. If not, I will wait for the Epix 3x.

Thanks in advance!

  • I had a 6X, been using the Epix2 for about a month and asked the same question before I upgraded: forums.garmin.com/.../experience-of-screen-size-for-those-of-you-coming-from-6x

The screen is smaller, and so are the fonts, but to 99% it is easier to read. In my opinion it requires ideal circumstances for the F6X display to beat the contrast and visibility of the Epix2.

  • Thanks. Yes, I had read that earlier thread, but there was no comment specifically on notifications. Those are the smallest fonts on my watch, and I use them constantly. So while I understand that the general readability of the display is as good or better on the Epix 2, I am specifically concerned about the readability of the notifications and calendar items.

  • I personally find it much easier to read because the contrasts are higher. Of course, it always depends on which watchface you use. I have a corneal curvature and a small age farsightedness.

  • I'm sorry I'm coming from a Fenix 6 to the Epix, not 6X so it's not exactly the same comparison but like you I wear glasses (in my case I wear them all of the time), but when I am running or riding I wear glasses that do not have the reading portion.

The increased contrast of the white text on the very black background makes it readable for me when I am running, but only because I can move my arm close enough to my face.  It is absolutely more easily readable than the text on the F6 was.  That said, I don't look when doing a trail run because to move it close enough for me to read properly would put me at risk of tripping on a rock or tree root.  On the bike I cannot read the notifications and use an Edge 1030 Plus because even the data fields are difficult for me to read when riding.

I know it's not comparing to the 6X but hopefully it is helpful anyway.

I am coming from a 6x Pro to the epix Gen2 and find the epix much easier to read with my 72 year old eyes.

Here are screenshots of the same message on the two watches in question (6x on left, epix on right):

The higher resolution and higher contrast (deeper blacks) of the epix make it a lot easier for me to read the epix.
