Skin irritation with the silicone wristband

Hello,

I've bought the Epix 2 (black titanium version with silicone wristband) three weeks ago and I am experiencing severe skin irritations. I've tried with different hand creams and cleaning the band with alcohol multiple times as mentioned in the support article but there wasn't any help. Loosening up the band also wasn't of any help.

Browsing this forum, I realised that this can be solved through the Garmin Outdoor Product Support but there isn't one available for Croatia - the website appears to be broken. My regional Garmin couldn't also be of any help except to offer me a 40% discount on a nylon band that costs 199,99€ which I find ridiculous after paying a 999,99€ for the watch itself. Is there a possibility to fully replace the band for a nylon one at a more normal price?

  • Are you wearing it 24/7? If so try put it on the other arm during the night. if I don't move my watch (previously FR935/45 and now Epix) for the night my skin also reacts, but I don't think its an allergic reaction, but something air/moist related...

  • Thanks for the advice! I did also try that but the irritation appears usually at the end of the day. I do the switch to my other arm before going to sleep and next morning I switch it back. The only time I don't wear it is during showering.

  • Buy nylon strap from Aliexpress for 3 euros.

  • I noted similar after my first couple of days, so for day-to-day use I swapped for the Quickfit band I had on my 945, and started to heal up and not had a problem since (I've been wearing 24x7 except in shower).

I think the issue is that the buckle is a lot chunkier and sits 'proud' of the silicone on the Epix strap and digs into your wrist a bit, where the metal part of the 945 strap is flush with the silicone (I get a similar reaction if I had coins containing nickel, or keys, directly in my trouser pocket). *OR* - it could be that the Epix strap just needs wearing in, maybe repeatedly washing in warm water could soften it up?

See picture below, the black 945 strap is on the Epix, the not black Epix strap with the fat buckle is above.

When running I've just kept the habit of swapping in one of the many cheap Quickfits I've picked up over the years...easier to keep things gunk free as I just stick the black strap on when I get home, and clean the sweaty ones every now and again.

, I've noted that you're having issues with local support -

  • We are sorry to hear about the issue you are reporting. The skin irritation may be a result of build-up on the watch band and/or casing. You should discontinue wearing your watch until your skin has healed.
