Garmin needs to make a sleep tracking device for Epix and Fenix users, anyone else agree?

Can Garmin make an updated Vivosmart 5 or some kind of comfortable device for sleep and non activity wearing.  I just bought the Epix2 and love it, but there is no way I can sleep with this on my wrist.  I am a whoop user as well and love the simplicity of the band but hate that it doesn't share any data with Garmin.

For that reason, I wish Garmin would come out with a band similar to Vivosmart 4 that would work together with the Epix.

Does Garmin read these forums??  I'm not the first to ask this!!!

  • I'd gladly see a Vivosmart 5. Not for sleep tracking but because I cannot wear anything but a msall watch around my ankle during daytime. I'm a welder and I would prefer not to wear an Epix during work hours, Those sparks tend to sneak in everywhere.

I'm pretty happy with the Vivosmart 4 but I just wish that body battery, stress and so on would sync between devices... And a Vivosmart 5 with better sensors would of course also be great for that reason.

  • If sleep tracking is important to you then you should have brought the Fenix 7S. The Fenix 7S is everything the Epix 2 is minus the power hungry screen in a smaller, lighter package with the option of Solar as well.

  • I have an advanced unobtrusive tracker high on my wishlist, fully integrated in the Garmin ecosystem with physio true up. I’d say that there are several good use cases, ranging from elite athletes wanting to keep track of HRV, resting heart rate, sleep, recovery time, training load, and more to recreational athletes as myself. I would use such a device, and then log all of my sessions on a full sized watch. I have tried achieving this with the Vivoactive HR (too big), Vivosport (no sleep tracking, no body battery, no physio true up) and the VivoSport 4 (old sleep tracking algorithm, no physio true up).

The luxury watch segment is bigger than ever, and although training and smart watch are growing rapidly, so are traditional types of watches. To be able to combine advanced metrics with a watch of your choice is a given untapped opportunity for Garmin.

Garmin already have the form factor in the VS4, all the sensors and algorithms. They just need to bring such a device to the market.

  • The Vivosmart 4 hasn't the newest sensors but it does what you're asking for.

  • No it does not. The VS4 lacks physio true up and it has the older sleep algorithm. When comparing sleep data with the most recent FirstBeat algo, the difference is obvious. And as physio true up is not supported, any benefit to recovery is not consolidated to a total recovery time, nor is body battery or VO2max. I have the VS4.

It has true up only, so only steps, calories and intensity minutes are synchronized across the ecosystem.

  • Well, it doesn't have the latest sensors or algorithms but you could use it 24/7 and still use for example a Fenix 7 for activities. You'd then get almost everything you're looking for.

  • I am not looking for “almost everything”. I have that already. I am looking for full physio true up support.

The VS4 do not support physio true up, and therefore do not meet my (and most certainly quite a few more people) use case. I know that it will keep track of sleep, resting heart rate and body battery. But if I do two sessions on a different device (that do support physio true up), the total daily load, and recovery time is not taken fully into consideration across both devices. None of them, nor Garmin Connect will give me proper recovery data, unless I use the same device for both training and recovery.

I use recovery data, training load, and resting heart rate  (could use HRV also) daily, to guide my training, and it would be quite useful to be able to track this across the ecosystem, including a small bracelet style device.

I fully understand that a lot of ppl are happy with current devices in this sense, but I would like to have options. As I said in my first post this is on my wishlist.

These are the data supported by physio true up:

    • VO2 max
    • FTP and Power Zones
    • Recovery Time
      • Recovery Time will only update when Physio TrueUp is enabled on all devices.
    • Training Load
      • For accounts with both Edge cycling computers and watches, make sure to sync the Edge before starting any new activity on it. Failing to do this will cause the 7-Day Training Load to differ between the Edge, watches, and/or the Garmin Connect Training Status page.
    • Training Load Focus
    • Heat/Altitude Acclimation
    • Race Predictor
    • Last Activity/Sport Widget
    • Last Run/Ride/Swim Widgets
    • Weekly and Monthly totals

  • Okay maybe I'm wrong then, but I use my Vivosmart 4 24/7 and use it along my 5X during activities. Recovery, training load seems to be affected accordingly even though I use the Fenix 5X for an activity , as long as I've worn the Vivosmart as well. Isn't this the way it works?

  • A big YES PLEASE from this stomach sleeper, since i rest my cheek on my hand/wrist, switching from left to right through the night. I simply cannot wear my fenix. An accessory sleep tracker coild be soft and stretchy and very low profile. It wouldn't even need a screen! This would keep the cost down too.

  • I totally agree! I have the Epix Gen 2 and wearing it at night is annoying. I bought the Oura to track sleep, but I'd love the data integrated into my Garmin world to inform recovery.  Garmin could easily create a version of Vivofit that didn't have a display (to make it lower profile) and a comfortable band. Or a ring. Or partner with Whoop or Oura to import their sleep data into Garmin connect and leverage the data.
