Pins removable or not?

So I really want an aftermarket hand made leather strap.

Can I remove the pins? There seems to be some confusion.

  • Just to add a bit more detail on the measurements of the pins/spring bars using a caliper.

The Fenix 6 Pro original pins

    Pin diameter - 2.28-2.29mm

Pin diameter at the end - 1.60mm

Hole on the Fenix 6 Pro - approximately 1.65mm - (It was difficult to wedge it into the hole to get an exact measurement)

A very slight play on the pin inside the watch hole, but it could be coming from the cylinder and the ears of the pins.

I also measured the aftermarket nylon straps I have - but not too relevant other than the pin diameter at the end where it goes into the watch as it has its own clasps that holds the spring bars/pins:

Pin diameter - ~1.75mm (not too relevant)

Pin diameter at the end - 0.8mm

Very meaningful play (in terms of it moving inside the watch hole).  But I wore the straps for 2+ years and have never had it pop off (granted I never pulled on it really hard or try to pop it off purposely or played any hard contact sport with the watch).  I wore the watch 24x7 other than taking it off for charging.  I wore the watch golfing, running, playing badminton, spinningg, yoga, etc. and it never came off.

    epix 2 original pin

    Pin diameter - 2.28-2.3mm

Pin diameter at the end - (this is also approximate as it was difficult to get an exact measurement) - ~2.09-2.10mm

Slightly more play comparing the Fenix 6 Pro pins inside Fenix 6 Pro.

I also ordered the a watch spring bar removal plier from Aliexpress along with some nylon straps compatible with non-removable pins.  I'll give it another try on removing the epix 2 pins once I get the tools.

  • Good info! I ordered the 2.3mm fenix 6 pins from Strapcode to maintain compatability with the QuickFit straps - we'll see how they do.

Well... the "generic fenix 6 spring bars" from Strapcode arrived today:

The 1.6mm tips appear to be appropriate for the epix Gen 2, and I have confirmed the 2.3mm barrel on the springbars works smoothly with Garmin QuickFit straps/bracelets.

All that remains is for me to work up the courage to destroy the stock installed epix springbars and fit these replacements - working on my mental focus as I type...

I would be very surprised if the original isn't available as spare parts. Even if you can't remove the ones in place without destroying them it should be possible to insert new ones without any problem.

I would just cut them off instead of bending to make sure nothing breaks on the watch.

I can't tell for Fenix 6 but as a suggestion from someone here or reddit I tried it with my Fenix 6s. I wrote to Garmin with my existing 6s Pro serial number and address, telling them I lost the pins. I need 2 new one. If I can buy them anywhere etc. No answer nothing. But about a week later I had them in the mail. No comment nothing. Must be the original if they come directly from Garmin. Now this was good service.

So if you still have an existing Fenix 6 you can write to them...

  • The pins are removeable.  One of mine popped out with very little work - accidently - scary since I didn't notice the bottom strap fell off.  Luckily the top strap held the watch on until I noticed the issue.

    The pins
    popped out

This was not the author's question

    However, the question was :

Is it possible to remove the pins intentionally :

really want an aftermarket hand made leather strap.

    Can I remove the pins?

  • Is it possible to remove the pins intentionally

Yes but it requires a tool for the purpose or you may try with something thin but stiff that fits between the outer and inner part just by the end on one side.

I'm sorry, but I don't see any way to use a tool for this with the original spring bars. The spring bars used by Garmin do not have grooves for this.

With these Garmin standard built-in bars you have no possibility to use a tool, because there are no notches where the tool can be used.
Of course, there are workarounds to loosen these pins. But they are not intended to be removed by the user.

I say no, it doesn't work.

  • You do realize this was all hashed out a year ago, right? There are numerous threads here and on reddit about this.
