Enduro 3 Battery Thoughts?

Hey all I have the enduro 3 and wanted to know your thoughts on my battery life span.

Currently I’m getting 12 to 13 days of battery life with these factors/settings below and wanted to see if it is in line with what other e3 owners are getting. Seems low to me but maybe I’m a power user? Haha jk I’m thinking my last setting* is killing my power but just want to make sure.

Love the watch btw!

Here are my settings/setup (let me know if I am missing something:

Gesture off (backlight touch only)

Pulse ox only during sleep

Stock watch face (white background black Lettering)

Garmin share off

incident detection off on all activities

20 to 50k solar lux per day

Sleep scheduled from 8pm to 6am (batt saver on with wrist heart rate on and pulse ox during sleep, phone/wifi disconnected)

Manual WiFi music/podcast sync (Playrun) once or twice during that period

Torch used daily anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 mins

no phone connected during runs (BT manually turned off during exercise and turned back on when done)

Activity Data recorded every second (instead of smart)

battery application from CIQ installed

a couple of other CIQ apps installed but no watchfaces

*1hr to 2hr of sat IQ run activities everyday with MUSIC using BT headphones

  • I just changed my Pulse Ox to "on demand" as opposed to "during sleep" and it added 5 days to my battery life! Jeez!  I always thought Pulse Ox would be beneficial to see if youre getting sick or something?  Is that not the appropriate way to think about it?

Also regarding recording data every second vs smart, does this affect pace or distance while working out? Or is this more about the GPS map drawing when youre on a computer and want to see the details of your map?

  • I think HRV and body battery are better indicators for being sick or about to be sick.

The pace and distance will be the same on the watch. It only affects the recording. It will only save important data points.

  • I don't think pulse ox can help you determine if you are getting sick but there is some literature out there which shows that it can help identify when covid is progressing to the point where additional medical care is needed.  My thinking is that even if inaccurate, one could observe if oxygen saturation is steadily going downward.  Skin temperature might be a better way of know if you are getting sick but I don't know that there is any evidence of the utility of this.  If anyone knows more about this, I would interested in hearing about it.

    https://newsroom.uw.edu/news-releases/covid-19-mortality-linked-signs-easily-measured-home

"Sotoodehnia recommended that people with positive COVID-19 test results, particularly those at higher risk of adverse outcomes due to advanced age or obesity, buy or borrow a pulse oximeter and monitor for blood-oxygen below 92%. The clip-like devices fit over a fingertip and can be purchased for under $20."

For the every second recording, my thought is that this is only really useful if one needs to record a very high quality track/course for other people to follow.  Example being you are a race director and creating a course for your participants to follow.

  • Interestingly, the stress score has shown me when I've been sick.  I think it's based on heart rate variability.

Pulse Ox is how much oxygen is in the blood- when you breathe out less than you breathe in and co2 concentrates in the blood.  It's usually somewhere in the 90's.  I sit right next to a PA and asked her why blood oxygen would get lower.  COPD, asthma, sleep apnea, fluid in the lungs (pneumonia.)  The cutoff for getting an oxygen tank is 88%.

If you have a low blood oxygen, you probably don't need your watch to tell you.

All of that being said, I'm a geek and wanted a watch with Pulse Ox when they came out.  Still, a little $10 finger Pulse Ox monitor on Amazon does the same thing.  It's just another sensor and for the amount of battery it drains, probably doesn't need to be in a watch.  I'll just take a health snapshot reading if I'm having a panic attack or something just to see if there's anything to worry about lol.  Everything looks normal and I go back to my day.

  • I had battery draining problem. I did system reset and reinstall everything and now my watch last 28 days and 19% left. I did a few trainings only, bt only to sync, standard watch face, gesture off, backlight 10%, 4s, touch on. And I'm beta tester, every week watch consuming some energy to install a new update. That's why I thing resetting watch should be the first step.

  • Winter here so i get like zero LUX hours.  But i get over 20 days easy. Did charge it for about three days ago after 17 days and it still had 38% left.

During that time i have been using the watch every day 24/7 and does at least 60 min exercise every 48 hours.

  • I think he means a factory reset to defaults.  Settings > System > Restore & Reset > Reset

Sometimes either updates can act wonky or you may have fiddled with too many settings and it's easier to wipe and set everything back up.

I've done it a few times on past Garmin watches.  It's also helped me learn the menus by heart by having to go through them several times:/

  • Battery life is so bad…Garmin really needs to improve this, their claim is totally wrong

  • Based on my watches performance I have to disagree with you

I posted the following in another thread on this forum about a week ago, but it's relevant here too......

I'm running the latest beta v12.31 (In the last few days I have now upgraded to v13.12)

I fully charged my watch on Saturday 16th November and left it on the charger for about 15 minutes when it reached 100%. I removed it at 23:00 so it's almost exactly 14 days since I last charged it.

I've been unwell so haven't logged any tracked activities in that 14 days, it's just been used in smartwatch mode.

Right now, my Enduro 3 battery has literally just dropped to 65% so it's getting 2.5% battery drain per day.

It is currently predicting 25 days remaining battery life (making 39 days in total). Personally I couldn't be happier with it as that's better than advertised!!

Settings I'm using for anyone who's interested:

Wrist HRM On / WiFi off / Pulse ox off / backlight brightness 20% / Backlight set to turn on only after sunset for all available options/ Watchface is Easy Round by MobileDriveway with all segments showing info that doesn't update every few seconds (e.g. no HR, no seconds, no Altitude showing in the face)

For Sleep focus mode I've scheduled daily from 22:30 to 06:15, watch face Sleep, notifications off, sound and vibe off, brightness 10% but HR is on to capture Sleep and activity data.

I hope that helps anyone struggling with battery
