List of issues/drawbacks. Loving the hardware, but slightly disappointed with the purchase.

Got my Enduro 3, using it since monday and while there are a lot of improvements, there are also things that are worse than in my Fenix 6 which will be 5 years old soon.

While the hardware is really nice, I'm having a slight buyer's regret.

Here are the list of problems that I've found in literally the first days of using it (not even a week!):

- there is no white background option for watchfaces,

- there is no white accent colour for watchfaces (there are white-like colors, but not completely white - you literally cannot make hours/minutes the same colour),

- there is no way to disable the seconds on the watchface,

- there are less widget options than in the previous gen watches (for example - sunset and sunrise widget is missing),

- there are LESS THAN HALF watchface options to pick (when compared to F7Pro),

- there's no way to enable sound notifications for navigation,

- some UI elements are really hidden, for example I couldn't easily find the option to disable navigation during activity,

- you can't disable some sounds, for example the "beep" for phone connected/disconnected (had it muted on my F6),

- some text in the watch faces is cut off partially,

- find my phone rings for like 0,5s then stops (Galaxy S22, on Fenix 6 it works perfectly),

I feel like this is unacceptable to have that amount of drawbacks on a watch which is nearly a thousand bucks - again, some of the things were not an issue in my really old F6.

If you've found other problems, please post here - maybe some Garmin people browse those topics and will pass the info around.

  • Same here love mine! Id never expect a new Garmin to be without issues at the start though there always the same but there rolling updates out fairly quickly so no biggy. The only thing I want is HR graph instead of the bar chart on the main screen. Other than that seems pretty decent. I've got my 3rd party Talky toaster maps working fine by selecting city navigatior so pretty happy considering it's a brand new release.

  • I got my Enduro 3 at the end of August and have successfully uploaded every one of the 15 activities I have completed since then.

My watch connects to my phone via Bluetooth and activities have uploaded to Garmin Connect wether my phone is using mobile data when I'm out or at home via my WiFi.

If you connect to your phone via Bluetooth do the activities upload?

  • I'm glad to hear that you're happy with the watch but seriously, if you expect your watch to be broken and buggy then it means that something is not right with the release/development process at Garmin.

I get that these are very complicated and rich in functions, but those watches are more expensive that flagship phones or decent gaming PCs where I live, this is unacceptable.

The least we should expect from a 1000$ watch is to be stable. Getting bad alpha/beta product at this price should not be the norm.

Can you imagine buying a car, it breaking after 2000km's and people going "oh this is normal, wait for the global recall and then, for a second recall, and then it will be perfect"?

  • I don't understand the overwhelming majority of the complaints. The watch does what it says. I have been using it for long trailruns in the mountains, multiday hikes & hunting and the usual training runs "around the houses" where I live. IMHO that's what it was primarily designed for.

To this day I'm yet to experience a reboot or any fault whatsoever, with the exception of the cold plunge bug, which is now gone. I have found the watch by now as equally or even more dependable than my previous Fenix 6pro - especially with its amazing battery life, which almost beggars belief!

The notion that the watch is "broken and buggy" is simply ***.

Calling it "broken", just because some people are unhappy with some fringe functions like watch face customization issues, not enough widget options (!!) or compatibility with third party maps (which will surely be addressed in due course as well), is a far stretch and put doubts in my mind that the complainers have ever even used the watch beyond playing with it on their couch ... I mean, really, what athlete gives a flying f*ck, about whether Mickey Mouse as watchface background works or not and whether widgets have more options when all the important information is there and works flawlessly!?

Don't take this too personal, but somehow I believe most of the whiners are probably better off with an Apple Watch or some other gadget, where they can attach a bluetooth mouse to and which they can also use as phones and/or Instagram input devices.

  • Tienes razón. Todos los que nos quejamos de funciones que no nos funcionan, como poder seleccionar mapas de terceros en mi caso, lo hacemos porque estamos equivocados.

  • I did run into issues like watch crashing (rebooting) EVERY TIME i try to go into widget glances (until I removed garmin coach from my list using phone setup), or having to restart spotify on my phone because the spoken audio prompts causes it to go into a loop that persists forever - I had to do it every run, by the way. If that's not buggy, what else does the watch have to do to consider it unstable? Bugged custom maps? Rebooting when taking a cold shower? Those are just icing on the cake.

Also whether I like Mickey Mouse or not, I spent 1000$ bucks and have less customization options (not even half) than the predecessor had, that's not an opinion, that's a fact - I expect the newer generations to get better with time, not take steps back and have some features (again, that were available in previous gens) missing.

If Enduro 4 comes out with 2 available watchfaces and no customization of them, will you also argue that people should get an apple watch instead?

  • Yes to your last question!

If I were Garmin I'd have a specialized Enduro watch with:

    • 1 available watchface
    • 0 widgets
    • 0 customization

It would be the "no-bs for athletes only watch".

  • I've found a perfect match for you then, it's called Forerunner 310XT, it's for the most serious athletes only and has 0 watchfaces actually and certainly no BS.

I'll on the other hand keep expecting my watches to get better with every generation, especially when they gradually get more expensive :)

  • Thanks! Looks a bit "bulky" and kinda discontinued?

But as I said, I'm extremely happy with my Enduro 3 so far. :-)
