Navigation with GPX files created in the Strava editor

Hi everyone
I often create routes using the Strava editor, export them as GPX files, upload them to my Garmin Enduro 2, and start navigation. However, it has now happened four times in a row that, midway through the route, the watch crashes. The activity remains saved, and I can resume it, but all heart rate data and the elevation profile are reset.

I’ve already tried resetting the watch and updating the software, but unfortunately, the problem persists. I’ve also analyzed the GPX files created in Strava, and they don’t seem to be corrupted.

Has anyone experienced this issue? Do you have any suggestions?

  • I create in Strava and they automatically populate to my Connect Account if I Favourite them in Strava (no need to export and reimport) I can then send to my 965 from Connect and use with no issue. I have a Strava subscription maybe this is dependent on that.

Do you import the route into Connect from the GPX and then send to the Garmin?

  • I also sometime use this to create routes and download and import into Garmin Express

  • Which watch? Perhaps ask in the appropriate watch forum.

  • Hi S.M.R

Thank you very much for your quick and comprehensive response!

I didn’t know it was possible to sync tracks created on Strava directly with Garmin, it’s incredible how much more convenient and faster it is this way!

I ran a test by uploading the same track from Strava twice: once via synchronization and once using my previous method of exporting the GPX from Strava and manually uploading it to Garmin Connect.

The structure of the two GPX files present in Garmin after the transfer is the same, but the one uploaded through synchronization undergoes point interpolation, resulting in a more continuous track with richer information compared to the manually uploaded one.

I haven’t tested navigation yet, but I’m fairly certain this was the issue. As soon as I’ve tested the navigation, I’ll post the results on this forum.

    Thanks again!

  • Any luck? I’m seeing the same behavior you call out on longer runs w/ courses as well coming from Strava, even with auto-importing the route. I’m going to try and longer mountain run this weekend with a CalTopo built route and see if that helps at all. I’ve got a 100 miler in February and at this point I’m considering not using the course because I can’t trust the watch to not reset which is frustrating.
