Garmin MARQ vs. Luxury automatic watch

Hi,

I have the MARQ Aviator and I like it very much, recently I even purchased several more straps for it for different looks.

However, I’m considering purchasing a nice luxury Omega automatic watch (~5000$) which looks very nice IMO. However, I'm afraid I won't wear the Omega as much (since I'm so used to the smartwatch features in Garmin). What do you think? Do you still wear your automatic watch now that you have the MARQ? When do you wear it? Is it still makes sense to purchase an automatic ("old technology?") watch those days?

Would love you hear your opinions.

Thank you for confirming, I ordered a FR945. It's a little bit different than the Marq Slight smile

  • I personally don't think you can ever go wrong with a very nice, classic analogue watch, simple and straight forward with a certain amount of style. Regretfully, in a few years, technology is going to move on and your Garmin and mine (Fenix 6X Pro Solar...couldn't justify the additional expense of the MARQ series) are going be left behind. But they are sure fun right now!!! But then you have to consider the source since I'm 70+ years and not really a watch guy even though I have two Rolexes and one Omega and some other vintage watches. It's nice to options. And, in the years go come, you can hand them down to those important to you. Good luck! Sorry Garmin!

What's your definition of a watch guy?

    Sorry Garmin!

I'm not sure that Garmin are going to be too upset that you bought a Fenix 6X Pro Solar and didn't want a funcitonally almost identitical MARQ on top of that!

Nobody ever said you would go wrong with a good analogue watch. The OP's question was do you wear the analogue watches now that you have a sports watch? I find I don't but perhaps that's the difference my MARQ aviator makes over your Fenix, in that the former is stylish enough to be considered alongside a classic watch whereas perhaps the latter isn't? IMHO that makes the MARQ better value.

There is a precedent for this with Garmin, they have a digi-analog one (can’t remember the model now)

Is that the vivomove? Yes, agree that a MARQ version of this would be cool.

  • For me the answer is no. I like watches and fine mechanical things but the fact is that my automatic Swiss mechanical watch is in a drawer for years and my daily wear it a Garmin Fēnix.

It doesn’t look as nice but the fact is the Garmin is so much more useful that I want to have it on. The Omega languishes in a drawer.

I have a friend who similarly wears a Fēnix all the time and has a couple of nice Swiss automatic watches in a drawer.
