Garmin MARQ vs. Luxury automatic watch

Hi,

I have the MARQ Aviator and I like it very much, recently I even purchased several more straps for it for different looks.

However, I’m considering purchasing a nice luxury Omega automatic watch (~5000$) which looks very nice IMO. However, I'm afraid I won't wear the Omega as much (since I'm so used to the smartwatch features in Garmin). What do you think? Do you still wear your automatic watch now that you have the MARQ? When do you wear it? Is it still makes sense to purchase an automatic ("old technology?") watch those days?

Would love you hear your opinions.

  • My answer would be no, I also have a very nice automatic watch which I stopped using it after I got the Garmin. Having this Garmin, it makes sense to wear it 24/7 to make the best out of it.

  • I have a vast automatic collection which I cherish, but wish I never bought. The two Marqs that I have a in permanent rotation. I hate a day where all stats are lost. Have not worn an automatic watch since October. Id say don't buy the Omega unless its your first watch and will be a heirloom piece.

  • Does Physio TrueUp work for you well? I am considering another device but not sure if it works.

  • I have limited experience with this function, between MARQ and Garmin 530 but so far it worked.

  • Which Omega?

I’d say it depends... I have a few mechanical watches (3 Omegas, 1 Breitling, and s Tudor and a Bremont that both I shouldn’t have bought)

I go through periods of wearing the MARQ, then I get annoyed with it and the constant data so I happily switch back to a mechanical for some time snf enjoy the simplicity. Then typically I find that I miss the data and go back to the Aviator for  a while

    rinse and repeat Smiley

If you can afford the Omega definitely go for it!!

  • Omega Seamaster 300m Grinning

  • That’s a really nice one! Blue or black dial?
    I have a seamaster 300 LE 1957 which is a beauty too

  • I really like the black dial Grinning

So... here is a red wine fueled idea (that I wish to copyright Garmin if you do it ;-) )... as a new MARQ Athlete owner I like many I am sure went through the question of practicality to my sport vs looks which must be an inherent consideration to any MARQ owner. As I have read more on here... I can see that quite a few people have more than one... which I get. The Athlete makes sense when I am running, riding or in the gym... but I'd rather have the Aviator on a night out... but then on a night out... that display... really.

So... we as MARQ owners are obviously watch people... but we are also data and stat people. So surely a good way to sell the 90% of us who only own one watch... a second... would be to produce a watch with a true mechanical face... with the same sensors in the background... that could be the ultimate 'dress watch'... then when we hit the gym, trail, road etc... we switch to the actual interactive version.

I'd be all over that. Surely many others would as well?

  • There is a precedent for this with Garmin, they have a digi-analog one (can’t remember the model now)

I agree, an analog MARQ would be brilliant!
