Running Pace only in 5sec steps

Hi,

i did my first run wirth the Marq Expedition. Everythings went well, GPS was a good a my 645music, but the running pace was only showing in 5 sec steps. This is the first time i see this behavior. All my other garmin watches Shows it im 1 sec steps. Is this a Thing that i can change ?

Yes, average is 1 second, but instant is 5 seconds.

It measures with much greater resolution (please not that resolution is not the same as accuracy…

Are you sure about this? AFAIK all recent garmins show CURRENT pace with a 5 second resolution. Certainly my 735XT does so. What you might have seen is AVERAGE pace, which is shown with 1 second resolution.

Anyway, the reason behing this, is that current technology does not allow to measure current pace with precision much higher than 5 seconds per km. It's been discussed several times on this forum for different garmin wearables. Also I can refer you to some past DC Rainmaker reviews, where he explains the issue.

Hi. yes quite sure. My 645Music ( i use it parallel ) , fenix5 und fenix5+ ( sold ) shows it in 1 sec resolution. The average pace annoucement speaks in 1Second resolution and GC shows also a 1 sec resolution. So it is measured but not shown on the watch. This is a bug for me.

Do you you when the pace changes ? is a 6:40, 6:41, 6:42, 6:43, 6:44 -> 6:40 ?

I own(ed) FR935, Fenix5, Fenix5+ and on my device the (instant) pace was only displayed in 5sec. steps.

Due to the fact that I use a Stryd which has an accuracy which allows a 1sec. resolution I use the ConnectIQ datafield "APPBUILDER" to create my own 1sec-resolution instant pace data field (I apply a 3sec smoothing).

Very happy with this solution.

It measures with much greater resolution (please not that resolution is not the same as accuracy) but displays in 5 second increments.

Would you be able to share the formula you’re using for that? I can’t quite figure it out. I also have a Stryd with app builder.

of course:

timeavg(speed, 3)

Display Format set to „pace“

that is a 3 second average - together with a Stryd it is working perfectly for me
