How to set Pace field in Run Activity

Hi Everyone,

in my last run i noticed that the pace field of Run Activity (not avg pace or lap pace) gave me only five by five values. For example: 4'25'' 4'30''4'35'' but not intermediate values. I almost sure that in the past the pace value was second by second but I don't remember when this setting has been changed.

Is a simple setup problem or a firmware related issue? In case where can I change this option?
Do other Gamin users have this behavior?

Now I have 3.7v software version.

Thanks
Daniele
  • AFAIK all current garmin watches show instant pace with 5-second accuracy. You might have seen other values in an "average pace" field or in a custom IQ datafield.
  • Yes, older Garmins used to show instant pace with one second precision, but I think they changed it because GPS instant pace just isn’t that accurate and people must’ve complained about wild fluctuations. I think the rounding to nearest five seconds is more indicative of the true accuracy.

Dozen Run is a nice full screen data field app that shows a ”smoothed” instant pace (averaged over a few seconds) with 1-second precision. I like it because it shows all the info you could possibly want for a long run or race on one screen:

If you just want a normal data field with the raw pace (averaged over a few seconds), the store has that too:

  • Thanks to tmk2 andWillNorthYork for the answers, now the situaton is more clear.

Though I'am a little bit surprised of that behavior, for a device like Forerunner 645 I have expected the possibility both to set the accuracy of the Pace and also the duration of interval time where average is done.

In my opinion is important to have averaged value of pace in a time interval (15s-20s could be sufficient) but also to know if I run at 4'02'' or 3'58''.

Now i will try the suggested Data Field, :);)

    Thanks

This would be meaningless because the existing technology simply does not allow to measure instant pace with such precision. All you would get would be the numbers jumping around.
