Are you saying that altimeter screen do not time-out? For me it always switch to watch screen after some time, no matter I use it as widget or ABC app (long press DOWN).
Yes. The A,B,C do not time out if you add them to the “App Wheel”, (as I call it. Long press of CTRL button). But, the background goes white from this application. Try it.

Yes. The A,B,C Apps do NOT time out if you add them to the “App Wheel”, (as I call it. Long press of the top left CTRL button). Once added, the Application for each A,B, and C have a white background. Which is different than on the Widget and as you describe “long press down” on ABC. Try it.
Thanks,
Michael
Sorry for the double post. When I refreshed the screen my response wasn’t there. I see two now. :(
There is another way how to prevent the timing out of the Compass, Altimeter, or any other widget (incl. Steps, etc.), without the need of adding them to the Quick Menu (the "app wheel"), and hence without seeing them in inverted colors:
That's all you need - the widget screen will stay on as long as you keep the activity active in the background. Once you do not need it anymore, stop the activity and discard it.
And if you want to keep any other widget on the watch, without having it time out after 2 minutes, just do it in the same way - start an activity, press the SET button to open the main face, scroll to your widget, and you are set - the widget will stay on the watch as long as you do not stop the background dummy activity.
Ah. This is exactly what I’m looking for without much fuss. Thank You so much trux. You are most helpful and prompt on this forum!!

You are welcome, and thanks for the positive feedback! Just please approve the answer, so that it appears at the top for those who will look up a solution for a similar problem in the future.
I did “verify” answer. I hope that is correct. I’m new.
Yes, perfect, thanks!
Yet another note on the power consumption:
Every refresh of the display costs some energy. That is also the reason why Instinct stops displaying the seconds and other variable details, after a while, when not triggered by the wrist gesture. It means that by activating a screen with frequent display changes, like the Compass or Altimeter, the battery may drain little bit faster. And, the activity running in the background may take some power (despite chosing one without GPS), of course, too.
So to prevent a bad surprise in situations where you cannot recharge the watch easily, you better test how long the watch can run on a single charge, with the desired widget set up in this way.
