The Tide Widget Petition

Tides are available on old Casio Protrek/pathfinder/g-shocks for decades, why not on the high tech Instinct ?

If you think a true Outdoors Smartwatch deserves a way to follow tides.
If you surf with your Instinct
If you fish with your Instinct
If you use the Boat activity and knows where the MOB is hidden

Answer that thread to show to Garmin: we would love a tide widget and we say "please" ! :-)

  • Nope. That's when the phone has to come out of the pocket. A tide widget would avoid all that unpleasantness!

  • Sorry, but this doesn't work at all for my location. I double checked it with a tide app and the high tide is up to 2 hours off with your calculation method. May be it works on some locations, but for me it doesn't :(

  • Please PLEASE PLEASE GARMIN ADD THE TIDE WIDGET. I DIDNT SPEND 300 on a watch to have another version that’s exactly the same aside from solar and a tide widget......

  • Please Garmin. I really enjoy my instinct but it would be a no brainer to add tides to an out door watch!! Not make the exact same thing and sell it higher 6 months later.

No chance! If they added tides to the basic model now, they would have to refund all those who paid extra to get the feature and bought either the old Instinct Tide, or the new Instinct Solar Surf editions.

If you need tides, buy one of the models that have them. Or simpler: find and install a phone app sending the tide info to your watch in notifications. There are countless of tide apps in the phone stores, so I would be surprised if none of them were capable of sending notifications with the tide info.

  • May be they decide to make an payable option? That way both sides have a benefit: Instinct (Tactical) users can upgrade for a certain amount and Garmin gets paid for their work. Plus owners of the newer models can't complain ;)

  • Would have no complaints there! I don’t mind getting notifications for tides but would like to view future ones at a glance on my wrist. I bought my instinct in Nov 2019 and then a month later they dropped the instinct tide or surf one over seas which meant it was coming here. Kinda crazy it’s the same exact watch aside from colors, hr monitor, and tides. Garmin if you’re listening. I will pay for the darn tide widget on my basic instinct. I plan to wear this watch to it’s demise and tides would complete it.

  • I agree.  I have no problem paying for the tides app.  But to replace the watch for one thing is just wasteful.  I got my Instinct tactical for Christmas 2019.  I am not about to purchase a new watch just for tides.  But I would be happy to spend $20 or so for the tides app.

Instinct does not support the Connect IQ technology, so no add-on widgets can be installed on it, and there is no mechanism on the watch allowing such extensions. You bought the wrong watch, if you need tides. Sell it, and buy a one meeting your needs better.

  • They could easily implement a tide widget for the instinct. No special extension or hardware required. This watch has moon phase and sunset and rise. No special hardware for that? Just a connection to the app or however they store the data.
