14.71 Change Log Notes:

  • Improved the accuracy and reliability of altitude data.
  • Fixed an issue where one couldn’t edit Wifi networks, if the device had not paired and synced with a Garmin connect account.

Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.

Please send all bug reports to outdoor[email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 Plus series you have in the subject line.

  • Unfortunately, I don't have it! I only have it for 5x plus and 5 plus.

  • Would you pls. share this version for F5+?

  • I posted a link to a v12.71 beta zipfile  (v12.00 available in the backdate folder) earlier in this thread - plse.  see that post for more infomation and warnings.

  • Thanks for the beta. Unfortunately, the altitude issue isn't fixed. During my run today, my altitude varied between -44 and -63 while it should be no more than -8m. Strange thing is that Strava had a better presentation of my synced run information. As mentioned in a previous post my settings for altitude calibration are: Automatic calibration: "During activity" is "At start" and "Not during activity" is On.

It seems to be more reliable to not use the GPS data rather than the barometer. Or my Fenix 5S has an issue. Where can IO submit feature requests? I would like to have the option to manually calibrate my watch using a negative altitude.

Another topic, I've got issues with is sleep registration. I seem to be missing a couple of hours when I go to sleep almost every time. When I'm certain, I fell asleep before midnight, it often registers my sleep started at 2 or 3am.

  • Where can IO submit feature requests?

Here: "share ideas". I've been nagging Garmin about the manual calibration to a negative value since 2015 (Fenix '1' and 2 had this option, but the then-new Fenix 3 lacked it). Maybe it helps if more people nag..

  • Thanks, will submit my request. We're not the only ones wanting this. Already have seen a couple of replies on the negative altitude topic.

  • Today, I had another run where I changed the Automatic calibration setting to "Continues" instead of "At Start" assuming it would now continuously calibrate my altitude during the run. But the watch is still returning ridiculous values. Now the minimum altitude is 24m and the maximum is 55m which is really nowhere near where it should be, which is around -8m.

My F5S+ is still running on this beta release.

Is anybody doing anything with these responses?

  • You should consider yourself lucky. For the last couple of weeks my Fenix 5 Plus show spikes of thousands of meters during any activity. All with auto calibration to continues, so it should read the altitude from DEM. What the hell happened? And the funny thing is I'm still on firmware 11.00 (was afraid to update as everything was running perfectly), so I have no idea if it's software related (like New Years GPS issues with Sony chipset).

  • Since the last map update DEM is incorrect for my location, it is only 1 or 2 meters, but maybe it is more off in your area? I am on V12.00.

  • Did an online cardio training this morning. Which means doing the excercise inside the house, not moving around a trail. The recorded height was really amazingly off. Yesterday I calibrated the height outdoors resulting in -4m andmy  height profile during the training today was between -146m and -123m. I really can't comprehence why this can't be fixed. After calibrating the watch, it already starts to deviate as soon as I stepped into my house, same level. Within a day it goes down from -4m to -156m. Kind request to Garmin. I paid an awful lot of money for a watch which can't do the things it should correctly. I must agree with @Oxygene77. The quality of the software is lacking in this quality watch. Never had these issues with watches of other brands.
