2-3% per hour on the new 9.0 version in smartwatch mode

NO additional watchfaces
NO workouts
NO music

Bad result for the last update =(

  • Same here. I usually sync twice a day nowadays, bluetooth morning, and check if there is any update to apps or widgets. Wifi before bedtime. I use no notification, never had any music in the watch, simply as a «daily tracker» it easily eat 44%/24hour. Next month i am going to start exercise again after a hip replacement, i guess big fun when i start use the gps again. All this happen after ver.9.00, before that, normal consumption, about 0,35-0,40 pr.hour. Crazy.

    Tried many things.

    - Phone sync off

    - simple stock watch face with no second update (digital time, steps, floors climbed counter)

    - deactivate altimeter calibration

    - deactivate wifi

    - no music

    - reset

    - set time manually instead of auto

    - backlight off

    - switched off notifications from phone

    - also gone through these options (https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/fenix5plus/EN-US/GUID-7A30002F-B50A-4F1C-84CA-0EADBF4A9759.html) except the activity tracking, wrist heart rate and puls oxymeter (not avaiable on fx 5 plus).

Still the best value I get is 1.5% / h. So the only option is to switch it off during the night to get me at least around 3 days without recharging.

This is not much better than the latest Apple watch or Galaxy Active. What's the point of paying so much for a Garmin??

Anyone any other ideas which we could test to reduce battery drain?

My guess is that it's something on the OS level which drains battery.

I am running iOS 13.2.2, Garmin Connect.25.1 and FW 9.1

  • Not sure this is helpful, but since my first full charge after the 9.10 update, battery has averaged .35%/hr drain (about the same throughout the time I've had the watch, over a year now).

    • Music during workouts
    • BT always on
    • WiFi off (music sync only)
    • No Frills watch face
    • Altimeter calibration auto
    • Auto Time
    • Backlight on after sunset, on for 8 sec, 20% brightness
    • All phone notifications on
    • Pulse Ox off!! (5x+ definitely has it, and it is probably the biggest battery drain)

I usually have to charge every 12-14 days.

running the watch for a few hours without bluetooth connection now. (deactivated on the watch). Experiencing 2.7 % battery drain per hour.

  • Same here, i use bluetooth activated max 5 min every day (1 sync morning) and one sync evening with wifi , but battery keep on running away, all after ver 9.00 update. I never used any music, smartnotification and things that obviousely would have drain the battery. As we speak, discharge 47% pr day. Impressing Garmin , especially because you deny that this happen.

  • Sending an email to Garmin. It is not normal. Yesterday with a full battery from 11am, I went to run 50 minutes with music.

At 11pm the battery was on 70%

  • Hope you have more luck than me. I currently live in Thailand, where Garmin wanted 60 days !!!!!!! And 250 usd to send it for repair.

They will never ever admit that something went wrong with sw 9.00. But my clock went from 0,37-0,40% / hour to 48% aday with that *** update.
