External sensor(s) remains connected after activity ended

I'm experiencing a bug that I haven't seen for quite some time:
When relaxing on the couch after a run I noticed that my Fenix5+ was showing random HR values in the area 220-260. Turns out it was still picking up signal from my HRM-Run (which was taken off and left in the bathroom) and alternating between this and the internal OHR. Manually disconnecting the HRM-Run from the F5+ menus immediately solved the issue.

This is something I saw from time to time before (pre-FW6.00) and I remember it was discussed in here at the time as well, but I didn't manage to find that thread. I wonder if this bug might have been re-introduced in FW7.10 ?

Anyone else seen this?

To me, it's a bug of the HRM. It should not send any signal, when there is no heart rate. Maybe it's set a little too sensitive...

Yes, I see the same. After an HRV Stress tes, after putting the HRM-Run away, for a few minutes no wrist-HR is shown (probably because the watch is still connected to the HRM-Run. The HRV Stress test is finished, so the connection should be cut. But apparently, this is only happening after some minutes.

JanH Which FW version are you running?

I can't recall ever seeing this on FW 6.0.

OnlyTwo Yes, I understand that the HRM-Run won't shut down immediately, but the Fenix 5+ should disconnect from it nevertheless.

@SAHO...your F+ only connects with the belt when you start widgets or apps using hr and the belt is still sending
how did you place the belt...pads touching....complete wet....or ?

That's the point - it connects to the HRM-Run after ending activities, no apps running.
I didn't think a watch face that includes HR, or the native HR widget should trigger a search for external sensors?
If so, that would mean that when you have HR on the watch face the device is searching for external HR 100% of the time. (no wonder why people complain about battery life then...)
I don't think this is by design.

Hello everyone,

I can confirm that this is not a Firmware and/or Fenix 5+ related problem.

My Fenix 3 HR did that quiet often. I figured that the only way to solve that was to put the HRM-Run, after the run, into my post box and go for a walk in my neighborhood. That way it would certainly disconnect.

Luckily the Fenix 5+ never needed that. The only time this happened was when I came back from a run, took off the HRM-Run, put in the bathroom, and accidentally started the sensor search by going to the running app. That way it found the wet HRM-Run in the bathroom connected to it and thought that my heart rate goes through the roof.

So as long you don't play with the sensor search everything should be fine.

An easier workaround for this issue is to disable the strap in the sensor menu.

So as long you don't play with the sensor search everything should be fine.

That's not quite true. Simply opening the native HR widget definitely triggers this. (and maybe also having HR on the watch face? Needs to be confirmed.)

After I ended my Run activity yesterday the LEDs came back on as they're supposed to, however when I opened the HR widget the LEDs went out again. I did not open any activity, nor did I go into the sensor menu to check status (as I know this triggers the sensor search).

I'm experiencing the same problem after the latest fw update.

I wondered why my Stryd battery was emptying so fast, and I noticed It (as well as the HR tri) stayed connected for several hours after the activity.

I now have to manually disconnect it from the sensors from the sensors menu, otherwise the battery from the styd and from the watch drain very quickly

It is still happening (it just happened) on 7.60.
To me, the issue is coming from the HRM strap. It is detecting some sort of signal (who knows from where, as I was even drying the contacts, but this didn't change anything), and sending it out. I used a Polar H7 HR sensor before, and I don't recall I had this issue... maybe I'll re-test it.

It is quite annoying as I wanted to see how my hear rate was after the run, but of course I take off the HRM before I go to the shower and I will not put it back afterwards, just because it thinks that it is still measuring something.
