Is there going to be mini 3? Or is garmin ending this product line and focus just on messenger style gear? I,m curious because for me the mini is more standalone device, not depending on having smartphone with me.

I’d like to see something like an Etrex size with inreach features, something that is more useful for navigation than the mini series but still smaller than the 66/67 size and lighter too.
Etrex solar size, plus solar and messenger pro/inreach features
The device isn't transmitting (nor even receiving) continuously with Iridium though. So you need to consider average power rather than peak power.
I wonder what a typical Iridium radio power consumption…
yes, what I was telling abt replacable batteries was more concerned the for ever going question why 66s has replacable batteries as normal dry cells AA alkali and 66i has only build in Li source.
Phones use naturally Li battery packs which are exchangable. The power is there some 5w so power is needed.
Yes sure, one could build a small device like mini with some cover and battpack exchangable, but this will again cause problems with making it watertight. Some folks take a mini and go diving with it.
Iridium phones are far away from being really watertight, the simple 9555 is only for really nice weather. The 'iridium extreme' phone is slightly better sure.
I hope it arrives by the end of the year so I can buy it. I will use it for the mountains and for the sea diving.
