inreach mini 3?

Is there going to be mini 3? Or is garmin ending this product line and focus just on messenger style gear? I,m curious because for me the mini is more standalone device, not depending on having smartphone with me.

  • I really don't think so. There's definitely some overlap between the Inreach Mini and Messenger series but the messengers still don't allow for storage of waypoints, routes, courses, and tracks.

My guess, and it's only a guess, it's that they will add new features to the Inreach Mini 3 to differentiate more from the Inreach Messenger Plus, a few more basic navigation features and a bigger screen, given there is still plenty of real estate for that on the Mini.

  • I’d like to see something like an Etrex size  with inreach features, something that is more useful for navigation than the mini series but still smaller than the 66/67 size and lighter too.

  • Etrex solar size, plus solar and messenger pro/inreach features

  • I like it!

    Maybe an 'eTrex iR'?

  • We never no what Garmin will do, but hej, it is Garmin. Why shouldn't they surprise us in a positive way? It's okay to dream!

  • Absolutely fine to dream and I think having a more affordable Inreach device with full basic navigation features makes sense.

That said, over the years Garmin seems to have kept the Etrex and Foretrex as their lower-end series of devices. I might be wrong, but I don't think they'd  add the premium Inreach technology to the Etrex series.

  • I think given apples emergency service beta it's time to up their game. I think all garmin kit should have inreach compatibility, you have to pay for service anyway, and there should be fewer lines of products, with a unified more intuitive operating system accross all products.  There's far too many similar lines, its quite confusing, 10 different gps trackers including inreach but excluding mini or messengers.  I love the size of the inreach mini but there must be a way of consolidating the gpsmap, Montana and etrex and inreach lines.  It's confusing and unnecessary, specific use cases aside like tread etc which has inreach built in.  It's a similar theme with their watches.

I think its time garmin steps up or it will be relegated to irrelevance.  Smart phones/tablets can and will do all of this.  The only seperator is battery life and that's narrowing.

Adding inReach to their lowest profit devices would provides an additional recurring revenue stream not previously available.

  • True but Apple smartphones are not MIL-STD-810F, don't have a powerful antenna or buttons that can be used with thick gloves. For now consumer smartphones with satellite capabilities, which are currently still very limited, compete with Garmin devices for casual users who probably wouldn't even bother to purchase an Inreach device in the first place.

Considering that Garmin came up with new Inreach plans and even got rid of the suspended plan option, they don't seem to consider Apple smartphones a competition that can affect their customer base. This is not to say that it won't change once more brands start marketing consumer satellite-ebabled smartphones and that technology goes mainstream. Not there yet.
