My apologies on the mistake, yes the tap function for flag and shot location should be followed as outlined per the update changelog linked here:https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/golf/f/approach…
Prior to stepping on the green, you must set the flag location relative to the location visible when you are close enough. The flag must be set manually.

Then what is the point of the double tap to mark the flag feature??
My point. Here we go again:
The tap is to mark your putt location on the green. The flag must be marked to where it is set for the day, as it changes daily and the watch has no way of having that specific hole location loaded to it beforehand unless you manually set it.
I’m not fully following here..
while on the green, you can press the big red button, that marks the putt!
You can also double tap the screen to mark the flag, so why would I need to mark it before I step on the green? What is the point of the double tap to mark flag feature, if I have to mark it beforehand anyway?
The actual flag location is marked using green view with the touchscreen moving the flag to the location set for that day, and must be set prior to stepping onto the green. Tapping while on the green uses the flag as a marker to confirm the shot location. It is crucial to set the flag location prior to stepping onto the green to have that marked and viewable from the scorecard after the round.
This feature was added much later after the design of the Approach S70 and initial feature set advertised. The feature was worked into the initial design of the watch to offer at least some option of manually marking putt locations during the round.
You previously wrote:

Just to clarify—when you say “tap,” do you actually mean double-tap?
Because according to the release notes for 16.55:
- "Added the ability to mark the hole location by double-tapping the touchscreen in green view."
- "Added the ability to mark the locations of putts by pressing the action key in green view."
Based on this, double-tapping the screen marks the hole location, not the putt location. That aligns with what I see when using the watch:
- Pressing the action key while on green says “Marking put location” and shows a cancel timer.
- Double-tapping the screen while on green says “Marked hole location.”
So could you please clarify:
Is the double-tap not meant to mark the hole location as the release notes state?
If, as you said, it’s used to “mark your putt location,” then what is the actual difference between that and using the action key?
I have had my watch S70 for 6 months now and love it, however i have not used the green view until the last 5 rounds,
also i use the paid contours map but its also clunky if you are unsure of pin location and your location in relation to the pin its still just a guess of your path the the pin.
I will probably drop the paid contours soon,
I use the ct10, but do not have one on the putter yet, i think i will start to use the ct10 on my putter soon,
Today played 9 holes here is my experience.
Hole 1: as I walked on the green I walked to the pin and Double tapped the green screen and the watch marked the pin location, I then continued to my ball that was off the green and the watch displayed the correct distance to the pin, I hit the ball walked to the ball on the green and hit the orange button on my watch and the putt location was marked. i 2 putted for a 5.
Side note the watch did not record my chip shot, I believe this is because the watch thought I was already on the green because I marked the pin.
I two putted but the watch thought I 3 putted because in my opinion it recorded my chip as a putt.
after the round I reviewed the hole, in fact, the chip was not recorded, but the flag was displayed in the correct location om the green.
Hole 2: on the green in 2, walked to the pin double tapped the green, screen pin marked, walked to ball marked putt. made par
the correct pin and ball location were displayed on the map after the round.
my hope is after i install the ct10 on my putter that I will no longer have to mark the putt, I should be able to walk to the green, mark the pin by double tap, walk to the ball hit the putt and the ct10 records the action.
I think I will just have to put up with the glitch of marking the pin location with a double tap and walking to my missed approach shot and hit the chip without the watch recording the chip shot, I love the fact that I know what the exact distance to pin for my chip shots.
I find that trying to mark the pin location on the watch from off the green is useless, I can never guess with much accuracy from 100 to 150 yards so i just go with the front center back yardage and then kind of guess the true yardage.
what I am really wanting out of the watch is how far did my shot on to the green land from the pin, how far is each of my putts and how many times do I one, two and three putt.
Cody your the expert, but i dont think that is how my s70 operates, on the green I double tap the watch while standing near the pin, the watch sends a message (pin location updated) I then walk to my ball and tap the red button on watch (putt Marked) after the round I see the updated pin location on the map.
(The standard location of the pin is always the middle of the green if you dont change it)
for me changing the location of the pin prior to getting on the green does nothing, other than me marking another incorrect spot as i can not possible put the pin in a accurate position from 150 yards,
also without the c10 attached to the putter when you move the pin all that happens ( the big picture) is on map view after your round you can see where the pin was, no data is shared with the user as how far from the pin, how far i putted 3 times to get in the hole ect..
really enjoying the watch, learning more everyday.
also when i double tap and mark the pin, the next shot if taken off the green like a chip shot is read as a putt on the watch.
here is how i use the watch on a chip shot, i walk on to the green on the way to my ball, i stop at the flag and mark the pin location, I then walk to my ball its say 30 yards from the pin, i see this because i marked a accurate location, i hit my 30 yard chip shot, walk to the ball on the green and mark the putt location with the red button.
