Double tap to mark hole location

So today I marked all hole locations with my s70 by double tapping the screen while at the hole. It said “marking hole locations. But now when I review the round in the Garmin app and on the iPhone, all the flags are centered on every green…

  • Prior to stepping on the green, you must set the flag location relative to the location visible when you are close enough. The flag must be set manually.

  • Then what is the point of the double tap to mark the flag feature??

  • The tap is to mark your putt location on the green. The flag must be marked to where it is set for the day, as it changes daily and the watch has no way of having that specific hole location loaded to it beforehand unless you manually set it.

  • I’m not fully following here..

while on the green, you can press the big red button, that marks the putt!

You can also double tap the screen to mark the flag, so why would I need to mark it before I step on the green? What is the point of the double tap to mark flag feature, if I have to mark it beforehand anyway?

  • The actual flag location is marked using green view with the touchscreen moving the flag to the location set for that day, and must be set prior to stepping onto the green. Tapping while on the green uses the flag as a marker to confirm the shot location. It is crucial to set the flag location prior to stepping onto the green to have that marked and viewable from the scorecard after the round.

This feature was added much later after the design of the Approach S70 and initial feature set advertised. The feature was worked into the initial design of the watch to offer at least some option of manually marking putt locations during the round.

  • You previously wrote:
“The tap is to mark your putt location on the green.”
“Tapping while on the green uses the flag as a marker to confirm the shot location.”
Just to clarify—when you say “tap,” do you actually mean double-tap?

Because according to the release notes for 16.55:
    - "Added the ability to mark the hole location by double-tapping the touchscreen in green view."
    - "Added the ability to mark the locations of putts by pressing the action key in green view."

Based on this, double-tapping the screen marks the hole location, not the putt location. That aligns with what I see when using the watch:
    - Pressing the action key while on green says “Marking put location” and shows a cancel timer.
    - Double-tapping the screen while on green says “Marked hole location.”

    So could you please clarify:
Is the double-tap not meant to mark the hole location as the release notes state?
If, as you said, it’s used to “mark your putt location,” then what is the actual difference between that and using the action key?
