New R10 is Not Reading at All (New System Software Available - See Update)

I just received my R10 and it will not register any shots.  I used Garmin Express to make sure it was updated. I deleted the Garmin app on my IOS device and reinstalled it.  My setup is just as it is suppose to be according to the instructions.  It still will not register a shot. 

I installed the E6 software and tried a practice session there.  It connects and says “ready”.  Once I hit it says “calculating”.  It then says “Error! Check if device is connected”. Then it connects again and says “Ready”. 

I have contacted support and they are looking into it.  

Does anyone have a similar issue or a suggestion?

  • This is an awesome unit. I have no issues using it inside and the shots were tracking perfect. Yardage might have been a little off but more than acceptable. Couple of important points. Obviously make sure you have 3.90 installed using Garmin Express. Make sure the distances are in line with recommendations - distance to net; distance in front of unit. Also make sure it is directly behind the ball and aimed straight through. if you are hitting off a mat, place the unit at the same level - i used a small book. I am not sure how much waggle people have, i do notice the LED turns red for a bit but i just have to wait a moment until it starts flashing green. it is really a non issue. i played 18 holes with my son and it only missed 4 shots because we totally duffed the shot - not on the unit at all!   

  • Yes - app version 2.2.1.1, GCS version 3.9.  Does not record golf shots, etc.  

  • Also cover concrete or tiles with carpet or similar covering,  no flurescent lights and no electric motors in area,  such as a fan

  • I managed to update the firmware via a computer like a 2004 iPod, and I now get some results through to my phone on the driving range. I wouldn’t say the bugs are all gone yet. I needed to have the ball very specifically placed in order to achieve a result perhaps one every five swings? I’d occasionally get back to back results but it was rare. I feel like it is accurate to the extent whereby a thinned ball traveled further, a fat one fell short… and it picked up a shank well. Distances with higher lofted clubs seemed short though by 10-15m. Hopefully more updates to come??

    • I had exactly the same issue. Unit kept losing connection, random lights flashing and no shots recorded. Spent three hours in the freezing cold trying to fix the issue. Very frustrating. Decided to try updating the software via the garment express website. Deleted and reinstalled the garmin golf app on my iPhone 12 and iPad and paired only using the garmin golf app. I also charged the unit for a while on mains power just in case that did something. Not sure. Miraculously this seemed to work and the unit performed well for two hours using both my iPhone and iPad. The E6 connect golf simulator very good. Fingers crossed it works again today….. it shouldn’t be this difficult.
  • Same - Everything is current, setup is correct, can't get it to read a shot. Blinks green, then does a long green on contact. 

  • If the firmware update to 3.9 didn’t work, contact Garmin for a replacement.

  • If you connect R10 to PC/MAC, does it tell in Garmin Connect that you are up to date? Mine was showing 3.90 in Garmin Express and Garmin Golf app, but eventually it wasn't properly updated it and in Garmin Connect it stated that I am still using 3.80. I deleted Garmin folder from R10 when it was connected to MAC and showing it as a removable disk. After that sw update was triggered in Garmin Express and it went through properly --> everything started to work

  • Use the Garmin Express app it’s easy, connect the garmin via usb and click on sync. If it’s not 3.9 it’s not updated. 

  • All sorted for me since upgrading to 3.9. Just tried it with the E6 app which I think is much better as I could connect it to my iPad and use the bigger screen, with better graphics in landscape mode.

    Gone from not detecting a single shot, to detecting every shot.
