Issues with Short Chips. R10 not Reading them.

Ever since the 3.60 update I have been having issues with my R10 not seeing short chips (anything close to the green where your backswing is significantly shorter).

I remember with 3.60 they did something to reduce the affect "club waggle" had in a preshot routine.  The R10 thought your swing was starting and then would miss your actual swing. Ever since that I'm having a heck of a time getting it to read chips. I have to use such a long back swing for a short chip to get the R10 to see the swing, it is extremely frustrating and will only teahc terrible habits.

I use my R10 indoors. R10 is 7ft behind ball and the ball is 11ft to the impact screen.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

  • There seems to be an issue with the latest update and interference. If I turn my projector off I can chip to 4 yrds. Projector turned on I must chip within 4’ from the Garmin and it is 50/50 if it reads it. I’ve seen others with this issue. First chip issue I have had in over a year!

  • Yeah completely agree I see the same things... Good news is it works great when projector is off. Bad news is it's a lot less immersive and fun without the projector and it was working before the update no issues. Most common thing for me now with the projector on is on short chips the Garmin will hang on red light for about 15 seconds then send a 40 yards shot off that clearly in the room flew about 8 feet. Hope this gets fixed in the next update. Ive currently got some RF material coming and going to make a box to put around the projector and see if that works.

  • This shouldn’t be needed as i used my R10 with my projector for this past year with zero issues on chipping. Something has changed in the update to cause this issue. Thankfully for me I can get the odd short chip to read if I chip 2’ closer to the device. Hopefully this is addressed soon!

  • Yeah I completely agree but I'd rather be on the front foot and trying to fix it. Other radar based units (mevo plus) has had projector interference issues for a long time. We only just got it so I'm assuming it's to do with the RCT integration..

Yes I've also found if you move closer to the unit it will register better but not all the time. And still get the 40yard issue.

  • I saw that a mevo user covered their projector with aluminum screen. Might be worth a try.

  • Yeah I've got some mesh coming hopefully in the next week or so will see if that works and report back and let people know.

  • played a round last night and short chipping was not too bad for once. I move the ball to like 4 feet from r10 from my usual 7 and really open the face on my 60 for 10 yard chips. Anything 25 yards or over was never an issue its those greenside ones that are a pain. Luckily my ceiling projector does not seem to cause an issue with the R!0, however sometimes I thinh the side AC unit does

  • That's interesting! I think my pre-shot routine causes red lights that I'm ignoring. Moving the ball close to the unit would increase the apparent launch angle. I tipped the device a few degrees forward and recalibrated. I this did seem to improve launch angle.

  • I think your projector is causing this. You shouldn’t have to move the ball closer. Turn your projector off and give it a test. Mine chips perfect from 7’ without the projector and I need to move my ball close with it on.

  • Yes I have done this in depth. With projector on the unit won't register short chips if I keep the ball at 6-7 feet from the unit. If I move closer say 4-5 feet the unit will now capture my swing and red light will come on and register the shot. I would say 60 percent of the time the shot will match the shot that I hit. The other 40 percent will be red light hang and 40 yards in game shot. Or red light hang and I have to reset the unit.

With the projector off I can chip all shots from 6-7 feet and the unit recognises it and almost 100 percent of the time it's accurate as to what I hit in the room.
