Issues with Short Chips. R10 not Reading them.

Ever since the 3.60 update I have been having issues with my R10 not seeing short chips (anything close to the green where your backswing is significantly shorter).

I remember with 3.60 they did something to reduce the affect "club waggle" had in a preshot routine.  The R10 thought your swing was starting and then would miss your actual swing. Ever since that I'm having a heck of a time getting it to read chips. I have to use such a long back swing for a short chip to get the R10 to see the swing, it is extremely frustrating and will only teahc terrible habits.

I use my R10 indoors. R10 is 7ft behind ball and the ball is 11ft to the impact screen.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

  • Hi, I have the same issue: not reading short chips. I am using the R10 (V3.70) outside with a set-up that within the specified distances.

  • I recreated this at home, resolved in the following way:

    1. Covered concrete in the intimidate path between the R10 and ball

    2. Slightly elevated R10 so that it was no longer having the bottom of the base below the golf ball (ball is on elevated mat).

  • Appreciate the suggestions on how you solved this issue. However, last night I tried the exact same things that you layed out along with suggestions. I'm still experiencing the same problems.

I'm hesitant to calibrate my device as my distances throughout my bag are spot on and I know many people are having issues with that.

what changed from the first firmware version that the R10 came with and the 3.6 update? There was something to do with pre-shot routines....this is when the issue started for me. It would sure be nice to get this figured as it completely ruins chipping around the green.

  • There haven't been a large number of reports of this issue. Typically the troubleshooting provided should resolve it. I am sending you a private message to gather additional details.

  • My issue repeated tonight, and I found the troubleshooting steps ineffective. If I took a full practice swing, the LED turned red and it detected the swing, but going back to trying to hit a 25 yard pitch, it would not detect the backswing and just kept flashing green.

My current indoor setup is suboptimal but I've covered concrete between the r10 and the ball/screen. I'm reluctant to calibrate since I've put the unit up against a Trackman and found carry distance pretty accurate.

I'll keep trying things but I am seeing the issue again.

  • Hi there,

I have issues with short chips. My set-up is outside with the net at 10 feet and the R10 at 6 feet behind the bal. The surface is artificial grass.

I find it not reading a whole sequence of chips (like more than 5) and then it does read one often,

    Greetings,

    Ronny

  • my r10 have big issues with reading short chips (4m) för left-handed players, when   they are shooting flop shots it reads but not I standard shots

there is no issues with right handed players. ideas anyone?

  • Hi,

I cannot understand that the R10 doesn’t seem to detect that the ball is leaving or not on short chips, independent of how long or short the swing is! This problem is frustrating as often times I have to repeat 5 to 10 times the chip before it registers! This ruins the fun!

  • Having the same problems, and really have since I received the unit in January. The unit simply won’t read chips. Have to either take a really large backswing to get the unit to go “red” and then chip from there and hope for the best or have someone flash a club in front of the sensor and tell you when it’s red to begin the chip. This can lead to some really crazy things happening when playing on the sims.

  • I'm having the same problem with 4.0 update installed .
