R10 distances seem off.

I have been using the R10 for a couple days now and my distances seems way off. Seems very club is approx 20yards short from the range? Is there anything that needs to be done with calibration?

  • Thank you side loaded 2.7 and have the extra functions now.

  • Latest firmware seem promising better result with a net for me.

Hey Garmin tech, On setting for mobile use at Home Tee driving range where is say "weather condition" n "Distance from R10"

Is there a way to make custom setting stick because every time you start a new session it revert back to default setting.

The custom setting should be able to retain it setting instead of resetting back to default.

  • Agree please save it so we don't have to go back and change it.

  • Distance problem when hitting into a net outdoors, tried 7i,8i, and a 5 wood as these are clubs I am most confident with all 20 to 30% down.

I am using the latest firmware 4.2 the latest app 2.7 and experimented with distance from Garmin to ball and ball to net also tried changing the altitude but no difference. Also made a stand to be sure the unit is perfectly level also tried the unit under a shade in case bright sunlight was causing a problem.

Only had this 10 days very disappointed. It is unusable.

  • What do You mean You see no difference?

It's no question that changing altitude will lead to longer lengths, all other being the same. The higher altitude, the longer the ball will go.

So You should definately see a difference.

  • Post an image of your shots so we can see what’s going on.  It’s hard to help you without it.

  • I have the same issues: When hitting balls at the range, the numbers are spot on. I compared the R10 with a Foresight GCQuad: Ball-Speed and clubhead-Speed are nearly identical (9 out of 10).
But when i hit balls into a net in my backyard, the numbers are way off. Ball-Speed and clubhead-speed are about 10 to 20 mph lower. So the distances are about 20-30 Meters shorter, too. With hybrid and driver the gap is even bigger.

Changing altitude and weather has nearly no effect, because the ball-speed / clubhead speed keeps being way too low.

My setup at home: 2,4 meters from ball to net, 2,1 meters from  ball to R10. I use a stand to balance the R10 and i calibrate it before starting. Changes in distances (R10 to ball, ball to net) have no effects. And yes: i hit the balls the same way i do at the range, same power, same feel, same speed - i guess.

Any ideas, why ball-speed / clubhead-speed numbers are wrong when hitting into a net? I have seen some videos on youtube where golfers with a similar setup get correct numbers (David Maxfield e.g.)

  • I have a similar problem, I have also made a stand to level the R10 and found that I needed to raise the stand slightly at the front so that the front 2 legs were slightly higher than the rear leg. It could be that there is a slight slope from where the ball is hit from and where the R10 is located. I have gained a few yards from the previous test burt still find I have to hit the ball much harder to get this distance. I also did the calibration with a ball in position, not sure if this makes any differance but I will try anything to see good results, unfortunately I do not have access to another device to compare results only by manually pacing out the distance in a nearby field so there is a margin of error here, so maybe I need an accurate way of measuring that distance without going to great expense.

  • David Mayfield is dead clear in one of his videos, a good heavy mat that doesn't move is key to keeping the ball speed up.

  • I get the same wrong numbers when i hit balls from the ground (gras) into a net. And you can be sure: the ground doesn't move ;-)
