R10 distances seem off.

I have been using the R10 for a couple days now and my distances seems way off. Seems very club is approx 20yards short from the range? Is there anything that needs to be done with calibration?

  • Calibration still only on iOS?

Anyone else think the device just isn't for for purpose? I haven't used mine in two days and it's probably going to be returned.

  • What are your club speeds on the GC quad vs the r10?

  • Can everyone look at Smash Factor on good vs. poor distances?   I had a couple sessions that I was scratching my head why the same level of strikes were getting such terrible distances compared to another session.   I reviewed the data between the sessions and almost missed the smoking gun... on the bad session with short distances the smash was either missing completely or barely over 1.0.   The session with good results were 1.40+

Now I know when I'm not hitting the ball well, can feel when not compressing ball decently.   I was hitting the ball no different between those sessions, makes no sense.   Maybe this is something the rest of you can look at as well....

  • Was the smash low because club speed was artificially high or ball speed was low? Smash factor itself doesn't really mean anything for the ball flight, it's ball speed that matters.

  • well that may hold true in real life but underneath programming it may not be so, hence why I am bringing it up.   Almost everyone in this thread is here because of distance issues.   Just something I noticed in the data... session showing good averages for my skill level show smash ~1.4, bad session shows around ~1 smash on my hits that I know were overall pretty much same like last session.   Sure wish there was an easy way to export data into tables we can share instead of trying to verbalize.

  • You're focusing on the wrong parameter though, the question is what is happening with either the ball speed or swing speed that is causing that smash factor.

  • You're focusing on the wrong parameter though, the question is what is happening with either the ball speed or swing speed that is causing that smash factor.

The doppler-based systems like R10s seem to be highly accurate with ball data (except for spin), so I suspect it is the swing speed throwing off smash factor. I have had shots comparing to Trackman where carry distances were identical but smash factor is not.

  • Given that most people's swing speeds stays within 3mph when the smash drops it's usually the ball speed has dropped. The two most obvious causes for a drop in ball speed are where the club reaches its low point before the ball or when the ball strikes the face away from the sweet spot.

If individuals want to check these points there are numerous ways of doing so. Ground contact can checked using a divot board/mat or using a line of foot spray on your mat. Checking where the ball comes off the face can be done with footspray on the club, impact stickers or whiteboard marker drawn onto the ball where it is about to be struck.

I am sure a lot of people will see where they have a drop off between a good and a bad strike it is down to these factors.

  • That's my expectation as well. The R10 seems to still have some data filtering issues that cause it to give unreasonably high swing speeds on occasion.
