R10 distances seem off.

I have been using the R10 for a couple days now and my distances seems way off. Seems very club is approx 20yards short from the range? Is there anything that needs to be done with calibration?

  • No I hadn't messaged Rob but it's bloody brilliant with the E6 software.

  • I used the E6 App today and it works perfectly for my irons. The distance problem I have is specifically linked to the Garmin Software. Tee time hero and the Garmin range have all my irons about 30% short.

Was this in the driving range app or on actual sim courses? I go farther on fairway shots on E6 as well. I notice the E6 software is significantly more realistic in terms of elevated tee boxes and sloping fairways, and I thought that was accounting for the difference. Garmin range and Home Tee Hero are FLAT. Around where i live, which is pretty flat, golf courses aren't. I have hit 260+ drives IRL but I do not get these numbers on Trackman, GC2, or or R10 driving range modes.

  • I tested on the range first and then on courses. I haven’t tried driving with it yet as I don’t have the head height in my garage for my driver. Which is why I’m using only my irons.

  • The distances are definitely still a little shorter than I would expect but it’s a lot closer using E6

  • Also on the E6 range?
It annoys me that it takes so long for e6 to show the numbers and is ready for the next hit..
Is there a way around that?

  • Anyone experiencing their wedges going 30 to 40 yards further at times? I've had a few shots where this would happen, but being at the range the shot is going no further than 110, but it's showing 130+ and more sometimes.

  • At the range about once every couple bushels (~130 balls per bushel) it picks up a different ball on very high lofted shots.

  • After having the R10 for almost 2 months a software release and new hardware from Garmin and watched several reviews of the device and using it indoors into a net I have concluded the following. If you are a single digit handicapper and a good ball sticker the device is very accurate. On the other hand if you’re an average golfer like me who is inconsistent the device is very unforgiving. Example on Home Tee Hero if I a tee shot thin the R10 will show a shot maybe 20-30 yards. In real life that shot for me would have gone at least 150 yards.  I have more than once hit a 120 yard par 3 topped shot maybe 6-8 feet off the ground and had it roll all the way to the green. On the R10 that shot would have gone 10-20 yards. On the other hand if I hit dead solid I get close to my real life distance. This makes it almost impossible to play the sim game which is the main reason I got the device.

  • Received my much anticipated unit today. Having the same short distance readings as everyone else. Did the upgrade before use so I can't comment on performance prior to upgrade. Interesting that there are no reviews having these issues

  • There is definately some accuracy issues and distance are shorter than they should be. More so the faster you swing the club. But if you hit the ball crispy the numbers are much better. The unit is definately not forgiving for the average golfer. Like the gentleman above stated that if you are a single figure golfer you will see much closer to real numbers.

Sinse getting to grips with it a bit more ths last few days I have started to see much closer to normal numbers on the E6 courses. The last course I played I shot a 84 which is exactly where my handicap lies currently.

I think Garmin will improve the unit some more with some firmware updates. For the price it is definately some exceptionally good in my opinion.
