R10 distances seem off.

I have been using the R10 for a couple days now and my distances seems way off. Seems very club is approx 20yards short from the range? Is there anything that needs to be done with calibration?

  • After much analysis both by me and the garmin tech support guys they have decided to replace my unit. They actually accessed by usage data to further analyze. Let’s see if that makes a difference …

interestingly they said on the chat support that some hardware changes have been made at the factory. Don’t know what that means and neither did the support guy who was helping me. He said that’s what he has been told to say in response to this issue.

  • Oh wow... That's a huge issue that's going to affect a lot of people!  Guess I'm gonna have to get on that support chat as I was one of the first to get one.

  • Interesting......  How did you get in contact with them, through the Garmin site?  Thinking their support team is going to get busy....

  • Garmin-Rob  - a user is now reporting that they’re having their unit replaced and Garmin support told them that ‘hardware changes have been made at the factory’.  Can you check and confirm what hardware changes have been made, and what units this relates to. Does it affect all units that people have already received, some units on pre-order that have already been manufacture but are awaiting delivery etc. etc.

  • Same here. Hit Driver on the driving range and could see shots going 200m + whilst R10 showed far less than 200m...

  • yep....  same issues here.   Distances are so low it's not funny.     Have tried everything.    Raised the height,  Leveling,  laser... everything.   Can't get this thing to read shots correctly.       On my Garmin g80,  my 5 iron is a usually around the 165 metres carry.    On course its easliy that if not more.   Can't get more than 130 metres carry on this device no matter what I do.        can you add me to the Private message group for this.    Thanks.

  • I didn’t save the chat but it was something to do with hardware at the factory. It could be a tweak on the assembly line itself or the product or maybe can be fixed by a sw update. Not sure though. Also for me everything else was ok except for carry.
(not entirely sure if ball speeds are reading correctly as well.)

  • Hello! There are no specific serial number ranges that are affected by this issue. Not all devices that are out there are having this issue. The issues related to both lower than expected launch angles and short carry distance are being looked into further by our engineering team.

However, in the interim if you would like to have the product replaced (replacement devices won't have this issue). Please reach out to your respective Golf Product Support team for any service requests on your devices by clicking on the following link.

    Garmin Support Center

If you live outside of the US & Canada, scroll down and click on United States in the lower left hand corner and select your country and then scroll all the way down and click on Contact Us in the lower left hand corner.  The contact numbers will be listed. You also have the option of returning the product to the respective retailer you purchased it from.

  • Wait, so... is it a hardware issue? If I get mine replaced will that fix the issues? Or, just give you time to fix the software?

  • (replacement devices won't have this issue)

I have just got off chat support (again). They're sending me a new unit, but told me the new unit MAY have the same issues and that the engineering . "I know that engineering is working also on a potential calibration option that is hopefully going to be available in the Golf App but there obviously isn't a timeline yet. I believe I can set up an exchange for you, but given that unknown calibration factor, there is no guarantee the replacement R10 wouldn't have the same issue. It might be best to wait it out a bit but I will leave that up to you..."
