Unable to connect to simulator.

Hi, I am trying to follow this tutorial here:https://developer.garmin.com/connect-iq/connect-iq-basics/your-first-app/ and when compiling the first app in visual studio code I get an error "Unable to connect to simulator." A window for the Connect IQ Device Simulator pops up but there is no watch face shown, simply a gray window. I am using Win 10.
