Unable to connect to simulator on the first attempt

MacBook Air M1, MacOS every version since 2020

Every SDK version, currently tested with Connect IQ SDK 6.4.2, Connect IQ SDK 7.0.2 Beta

VS Code 1.87.2

VS Code Extension v1.0.10

 

Steps to reproduce:

1) Make sure CIQ Simulator is not running

2) Try to run any app from VS Code menu 'Run Without Debugging'. Most of the time the simulator window pops up empty, and in the DEBUG CONSOLE 'Unable to connect to simulator' message is shown. Once the simulator window is up, the second attempt to run the app usually succeeds. But not always. Sometimes it becomes impossible to run an app without restarting VS Code. Only very rarely the simulator is able to launch and run the app without fail on the first attempt.

  • I'm not sure if that's much of a consolation, but I find that the simulator from Windows SDK 7.1.0 crashes at least once a day. The earlier versions were definitely significantly better than the Mac OS ones.
