I am developing a Connect IQ watch face for a Fenix 9 Pro 51mm and found a problem with the transition to AOD after touching the screen.
At first I thought the problem was caused by my watch face, so I removed functionality step by step. I can reproduce the same problem with a minimal test watch face containing only a background, hour/minute hands and AOD.
The minimal test has no input delegate, no touch handling, no timers, no weather or other data APIs, and no requestUpdate calls.
Steps to reproduce:
- Set General Use display timeout to 15 seconds.
- Wake the watch face with a wrist gesture.
- Do not touch the screen and let it enter AOD.
- The AOD transition works normally.
- Wake the watch face again with a wrist gesture.
- Touch the screen once.
- Do nothing else and wait for AOD.
After touching the screen, the AOD screen appears but remains unusually bright and the watch face becomes temporarily unresponsive. After a while it returns to normal.
I can reproduce this with two different full Connect IQ watch face projects as well as with the minimal test project.
I then changed General Use → Display Timeout from 15 seconds to 8 seconds.
With the 8-second timeout the problem disappears. The AOD transition works normally, including after touching the screen.
I found an older Connect IQ developer discussion describing similar behavior on an Epix Gen 2. This is obviously a different device and software generation, so I don't know if the cause is related, but the observed behavior appears very similar.
I have the minimal source project that reproduces the problem and can provide it if useful.
