Selecting a saved course before starting Swimrun is difficult, and app switching loses the activity context

Device: fēnix 9 Pro 51 mm
Firmware: 7.13 beta

I want to select a saved course before starting native Swimrun, then see the course line on Garmin’s map with the map following my position. Turn-by-turn navigation is not required.

Course selection works through:

Open Swimrun → map data screen → tap map → upper-right menu → Navigation → select course.

The course remains visible after START and through Run/Swim transitions.

However:

  • Swimrun is not offered through Saved course → Do Course.
  • Leaving an unstarted Swimrun to open a Connect IQ widget and returning loses the existing Swimrun context, even without requesting navigation.

Technical tests

I listed saved courses using PersistedContent.getCourses() and passed a selected course through System.exitTo(course.toIntent()). The activity chooser offered my Trail Run profile, but selecting it opened a standalone running activity rather than the running leg within Swimrun.

A separate test without calling exitTo() confirmed that app switching alone was enough to lose the unstarted Swimrun context.

Expected behaviour

I should be able to prepare a course before START without losing the already opened Swimrun activity.

Is this a known limitation or a bug? Is there a shorter supported native workflow or a Connect IQ API for selecting a whole saved course within the existing Swimrun, while preserving the activity and leaving the timer unstarted?
