Screen flickers in AOD mode on many watch models when using checkerboard mask to reduce on pixels

The whole watchface screen flickers every second in AOD mode on many watch models when using a checkerboard mask to reduce the number of ON pixels to 10% or less. The list of models appears below.

I created a test app to demonstrate the problem.

When the AOD mask is enabled and the watch is in AOD mode, the flickering is observed.  The AOD mask sets 3 pixels in every 2x2 square of pixels to black (off), leaving only one on.  The mask is rotated amongst the 2x2 square of pixels each minute. All Garmin rules regarding AOD display are being adhered to.

Users are also reporting that this problem seems to drain the battery much faster than normal.

Please do not report back that this does not happen on stock Garmin watchfaces, and that the problem is with the Connect IQ watchface.  Garmin stock watchfaces are likely written using functions not available to the Connect IQ API.  I have many, many users on many watch models reporting this problem for over 2 years now without a satisfactory resolution.  Previous posts of this problem on Garmin developer and product forums have been ignored by Garmin.

    Do you have any video demonstrating the issue or a more detailed explanation? I have installed AOD/AOS Test watchface on many of the listed devices and gone in and out of low power mode and haven't seen anything strange.
