no vivolife device

I changed computer and installed everything from the beginning, VSC, extension, SDK manager 1.0.15, ..., and downloaded all devices.

I couldn't build project because SDK manager didn't download vivolife device.

Taking the device directory from the previous computer solving problem but not everyone has it.

  • I'm not certain why this one was moved—it looks like this was effectively removed about seven months ago, but I'm trying to find out why. When I first saw this, I was thinking vivolife doesn't actually support Connect IQ, but I can't directly confirm since it's an APAC-only SKU and I don't have any of the actual devices on hand with which to confirm. For now, I'll assume this was a mistake since there are many apps published on the store for this product.

  • There are a lot of old devices and only vivolife disappeared... Strange.

  • but probably you don't really need it.

Pretty bold assumption. It seems to me there are 3 possibilities:

    - Garmin moved vivolife-specific information into the vivoactive3 device files. This seems to be what you are assuming, given the next statement of yours that I quoted below. If this is the case, what's the rationale for doing so? (Why make a seemingly unnecessary change which only affects an old, obscure device? Every change costs time and money.)

    - Garmin decided not to support vivolife anymore

    - The vivolife part number actually changed so it's now the same as vivoactive 3 (this seems unlikely since it has significant differences from the vivoactive 3, like no GPS, and no support for CIQ apps other than watch faces).

However, part numbers have been known to change in the past. See: the Enduro 2 fiasco where the CIQ Enduro 2 part number in the fenix7x device was removed because the real Enduro 2 devices were supposed to be changed to use the base Fenix 7X part number, except that didn't happen right away, which prevented devs from updating apps / releasing new apps for Enduro 2 for a couple of months

Check if the same part numbers that were in vivolife are in vivoactive3 maybe.

According to the Garmin API [*] the store uses to map part numbers to human-friendly model names and my own copy of the CIQ vivolife device files, the sole vivolife part number is 006-B3428-00.

    [*] https://apps.garmin.com/api/appsLibraryExternalServices/api/asw/deviceTypes

I did a search of my entire up-to-date ConnectIQ/Devices folder, and that part number isn't referenced by any other CIQ device.

    so I guess it's gone

Yeah, it's not listed in the SDK manager's devices tab.

Seems that Garmin doesn't want to support this device anymore. I mean, if you search for "vivolife", you get results which are completely unrelated to Garmin, and a search for "Garmin vivolife" returns mostly vivoactive results, with on result about vivosmart, and a single 6-year old reddit thread which is actually about vivolife watches as well as this bug report.

Either that or the part number did change, which I kind of doubt.

EDIT: I see we have ability to edit comments in the bug report section now. Thank you Garmin / CIQ team!

EDIT2: links in comments seem to be broken tho. Some links like https://www.google.com are fine, but others like the deviceTypes link above are being silently de-linkified (converted to plain text) by the forum, after a comment is posted / edited

  •  vivolife ?

I don't see much else about it. I don't doubt you had that device, I didn't from the past few years, so I guess it's gone. but probably you don't really need it. Check if the same part numbers that were in vivolife are in vivoactive3 maybe.
