Under Review

Idea? This is supposed to be the "bug report TOOL". Some first observations after installing the SDK and browsing the site.

Already a bit fed up so I do not post these findings in an ATOMIC fashion.

1) No clear feed back mechanism or moderator person for submitting findings with setting up the SDK.

2) Was not able to search the bugs to determine if my findings are new or not.

3) Nice that there is a SDK for Linux. SDKManager would not launch (Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS) though. There are old posts about not able to find (the old lib) webkit2gtk-4.0 which is no longer shipped with latest Ubuntu distr.

entry by Ish_too about adding Jammy to the Ubunto sources helped me. Pls attach this information to the SDK for Linux info on your site.

4) On https://developer.garmin.com/connect-iq/connect-iq-basics/ the three links at the bottom (Getting Started) give you a 404.

I will leave it at that. Perhaps more if I see this info has been fed-back to the site.

  • "Idea? This is supposed to be the "bug report TOOL"."

I think it's pretty clear that this bug report subforum (and the other bug report forums for beta firmware) are based on a literal "community ideas" feature [*] in the 3rd-party forum platform, and not a feature that is actually intended for bug reports, as you pointed out.

Hence the prominent upvote/downvote system for the original post itself. (Note that in "non-idea" subforums, you can't upvote or downvote an original post / thread, you can only like it).

[*] similar to Spotify Community Ideas (https://community.spotify.com/t5/Ideas/ct-p/newideas), except this entire forum platform is extremely outdated and buggy. I will never stop pointing out that when Garmin moved to this platform maybe 8 years ago (to get away from another outdated and buggy platform), I begged them to use a modern solution like NodeBB or Discourse, but we got this instead. Seems to me that any other company which still uses forums for their customers (very rare these days) either uses NodeBB or some bespoke solution. NodeBB has much better mobile support, and it does infinite scrolling right (so you can scroll to any part of a 10,000 comment thread instantly, for example). Nobody can even imagine a 10,000 comment thread working properly in this forum. The UX would be so bad if you just wanted to casually navigate through random parts of the thread.

The colossal irony here is that when Garmin forum users have actual ideas (feature requests) there is literally nowhere for them post in the Garmin forums. If they dare to a feature request in any subforum, someone (maybe even a Garmin employee) will tell them to submit their idea to the one-way Garmin Ideas page where nobody else can see their submission and Garmin is guaranteed to not acknowledge them.

    In other words:

    - the "ideas" subforum is for bug reports

    - there is no subforum for actual ideas

  • You posted this "bug" 11 hours ago. It's still in Under review status. It'll be changed to Acknowledged when Garmin's employees read it.

The search engine is not ideal, and it is context dependent. So if you are on a page in the bug report forum (i.e this page) and you search in the top white search bar, next to the GARMIN logo, then it works. It's not perfect, but using the right keywords I usually find what I am looking for. Although when you don't find anything, then it's always a question if you didn't use the right words, or it doesn't exists... What were your search phrases? BTW you can also use google search.
