GPSxx devices crash datafield in simulator

got a report from a customer that some of my datafields were not working on a gps67 device.   went to test it and immediately got the below error as soon as i hit start in the simulator


Error: Symbol Not Found Error
Details: Failed invoking <symbol>
Stack: 

Encountered app crash.

tested other apps that i know used to work and got the same error.    so then i created a brand new datafield (tried both simple and complex) and did not edit any of the default code, simply ran them as is.    both of those crashed with the same error immediately

tried various SDK versions and various minimum API levels.    no luck.

    1: good catch.  was reported by a customer.   i can replicate the issue in the simulator.   no way to know if it's the exact same bug since the customer has no files in his logs folder

    2.  i have 100% tested my apps in the past in gpsxx devices.  can't say when i last did so however and what sdk i was targeting at the time.  don't test with these devices very often since they seem to be niche products and not many of my target demographics use them

    did steps a - f just now, no difference, same error

    what is interesting, at least one of my apps fails in the simulator now with this same error, but seems to be working fine for the same customer

    very confusing:

    1. title: "in simulator", but then you say a user with a real device reported this

    2. when you say "other apps I know used to work", do you mean you know that those apps worked on gps67? Because if yes, then it contradicts the following sentence that no matter which SDK version you tried it crashes. Are you sure you "correctly" tested these older SDK-s? It's sometimes not trivial. What I would do is this:
    a. Reset All App Data
    b. Delete All Apps
    c. Reset Simulator
    d. close simulator
    e. switch to the old SDK
    f. run the DF.
