feature request: “Movement-Based Alarm” / Movement to Dismiss

Dear Garmin Team,

I would like to propose a feature idea for your smart and fitness watches that could be highly beneficial for many users in their daily routines:

An extension of the alarm function with a “Movement to Dismiss” option.

Specifically, this means:
When enabled, the alarm cannot be dismissed simply by pressing a button or tapping the screen. Instead, it requires the user to complete a predefined movement task. Examples of such tasks could be:

  • Walk 10 steps

  • Perform 10 jumping jacks

  • Do 10 squats

  • Complete 10 sit-ups

  • Or other simple physical activities

The benefit:
This forces the user to physically get out of bed, significantly reducing the risk of turning off the alarm while half-asleep and falling back asleep. Both studies and personal experience show that light physical activity immediately after waking helps people become more alert and start their day more effectively.

Similar features already exist in a few other smartwatches, alarm apps, or dedicated wearables. A native integration of this function into the Garmin ecosystem would further enhance your products—especially given Garmin’s strong focus on health, activity, and performance optimization.

Optional implementation possibilities:

  • Choice of activity type (e.g., steps, jumps, squats)

  • Adjustable number of repetitions

  • Ability to activate this feature only on certain days or times

  • Safety options in case the user is unable to perform the activity due to injury, illness, etc.

I am convinced this feature would offer great value to many users—supporting healthy habits and improving daily routines.

Thank you very much for taking suggestions from the community seriously. I look forward to hearing whether this idea will be considered internally.

Best regards,
Merlin
