Feature Request (Moved from App Ideas): API for Native Body Composition / Weight writes (Health Data)

Hello Garmin Connect IQ Team,

I am moving this feature request from the App Ideas section following community feedback (originally posted here: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/f/app-ideas/431273/feature-request-api-for-native-body-composition-weight-writes-health-data). Since the request has already gained strong traction and subscribers in the developer community, I wanted to post it in the official Bug Reports / Feature Requests space where it can be directly reviewed by the CIQ engineering team.

To recap, as the developer of a popular scale reader application for third-party scales (such as Xiaomi scales), my users—especially those on memory-constrained devices like the Instinct 2X Solar—are heavily requesting a native way to update the user's User Profile Weight and Body Composition directly from a Connect IQ app.

Currently, we are limited to FitContributor, which has significant drawbacks:

  1. UX & Health Stats: It only writes data to a recorded "Generic Activity" summary and does not update the actual health weight charts/metrics in Garmin Connect.

  2. Activity Clutter: Users are forced to record "dummy" activities solely to sync their weight data.

  3. Hardware Constraints: Maintaining BLE connections while running a full FIT session is exceptionally difficult on low-memory watches like the Instinct series.

Proposal: Please consider expanding the UserProfile API or introducing a secure API method allowing authorized Connect IQ apps to write directly to the user's Health metrics (Weight, Body Fat %, Muscle Mass). This would massively improve the ecosystem experience for Garmin users who own third-party smart scales.

Thank you for your time and continued support of the Connect IQ platform!

Best regards,

Luke
