Compatible Devices bug - edge devices not listed in web store but listed in Connect IQ Store app

Update (11/15/24)

After discussing with FlowState below; it appears there is a bug but it's with the Connect IQ Store App; which wrongly shows all devices listed in the manifest instead of showing the true compatibility (the intersection between min support CIQ, monetization support, and the app manifest).

Original Post:

I have a cycling data field; I last updated it in September (so it's been a while and changes should have propagated by now).

I noticed that when I look at the app page in the Connect IQ website, it doesn't show any Edge devices as compatible, it only shows watches.

However, when I look at my data field page in the Connect IQ Store app, it does correctly show all of the Edge devices along with compatible watches.

I think this is a bug with the Connect IQ website. I'm not totally sure because when I look at other cycling apps in the website I do see Edge devices listed.

I checked my app manifest and confirmed the edge devices are listed there.

This was brought to my attention because a user claims he can't install it on his edge device, and claims that the website lists it as non-compatible.

  • On a related note, here's the comment from a CIQ team member about monetization and supported devices:

  • > ahh gotcha, I thought that the 745 was showing up on the website. Ok yeah I agree it's just the app that has the bug.

Ah sorry, mistake in my previous comment haha. Sorry for the mixup

    I wrote:

"Actually, as per the CIQ website, your app seems to support lots of devices for which monetization is unsupported, such as Forerunner 745 and Instinct 2S."

But clearly I should've written "Actually, as per the CIQ store app"

  • One related question I have, let's say a user buys for one device, does he have to buy separately for each compatible device? or is it just once and then he gets to install on all his garmin devices.

No clue. You could try asking here:

On a related note, here's the comment from a CIQ team member about monetization and supported devices:

It is unlikely any other, older products will be added to the list of devices compatible with monetization, but all new products going forward should support monetization.

I think this is pretty clear as watches go, but I also think it doesn't really address the Edge situation either way. (Presumably if the decision was made to support Edge in the future, it's possible that some existing Edges could be added to the list, not just future Edges. But it's also possible that there's no intention of ever adding Edge at all. I have no clue)

  • > It's interesting that monetization is not tied to CIQ; I would have expected all devices with CIQ 5 and above to be able to support monetization.

Well, almost all of the supported watches are CIQ 5 devices, except for the Fenix 6 Pro variants.

It looks like they went with currently supported watces.

  • ahh gotcha, I thought that the 745 was showing up on the website. Ok yeah I agree it's just the app that has the bug.
