bug: datafield crashing without CIQ_LOG probably related to monetization

I use this DF: https://apps.garmin.com/apps/1457cf5b-bf18-4db2-8d26-220c773322cb

I have it installed from before it became monetized, so I have a free version installed on my fr965.

I haven't used it for a while, but this week I did use it a few times, and each and every time I only see an IQ... icon instead of the DF.

There's no CIQ_LOG file in the logs directory.

We think it might be somehow related to the fact that the app was recently turned to be monetized.

fr965 FW: 23.20

  • On a related note, can we get some official clarification on what's supposed to happen to existing users if a previously free app becomes monetized?

The monetization docs seem to explicitly state that existing free users will no longer be able to use the app until they pay.

    App Reviews

Uploading an app requires a review process to verify it complies with the terms and conditions listed in the Connect IQTm developer license agreement. If you are setting a price for an app that has already been approved, the app is temporarily removed from the store so it can be reviewed again. After the app is approved, users receive a message explaining that they must purchase the app before they can use it again.

Others have observed that existing free users are only unable to *update*  to the new app version [which is not free], but they can continue to use the existing app version [which was free].

Whatever the case may be, it would be nice if the monetization docs reflected reality. If it is the case that existing free users cannot use the app without paying, it would be nice if the docs would clarify exactly how this would be accomplished on Garmin's end.
