Bug: Can't upload app above certain size

I've been struggling the last couple of weeks to upload apps if they (the .iq file) exceed certain file sizes. The size increases as you enable support for more devices. When this happens it's not a timeout or an error message that helps you figure out the issue, instead you're met with a message about a planned maintenance.

I don't know where the line is but I've successfully uploaded 22MB apps but 50MB apps have not been working for me.

If this is a new app this is blocking since you can't continue the steps required to finish the app upload. However, what's even a potential bigger issue is that if this is an existing app, you'll get the same error message and not get further but the app will actually get uploaded, without you being able to add a changelog or change anything else in your app description. As far as I can tell there's no way for me to add the changelog after the app has been uploaded.

If it's to any help for troubleshooting, this is an app where the latest version upload was met with this error but the app still got updated and new devices is now listed under compatible devices: https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/25de6986-6d8c-4093-9e6d-389a8e7bdd84

Steps to reproduce:

  • Enable many devices for your app - preferrable all
  • Try to upload the app through the developer portal
  • See the error message

Potential other useful information:

  • OS: Windows 11
  • Monkey C extension version: v1.0.10 (building the app with this plugin)
  • Browser: Google Chrome Version 121.0.6167.139 (Official Build) (64-bit)

  • Yes I know, but not the changelog. This bug is about uploading a new app or a new version of the app and landing on an error page. If you upload a new version of an existing app you probably want to add a changelog entry which you can’t.

Are you sure about that? I've never had a problem editing either the description or the changelog ("What's New") of an existing app, without uploading a new version first. I just tried it now and it works.

Or are you saying that once you upload the too-large update, then the app is permanently in a state where you can't update "What's New"/

Either way, I agree this is an annoying bug.

  • I can't find anywhere this would be possible at least. Do you have a way to edit the changelog of any of your apps?

If I go under the app I have "Upadte new version", "Edit details" and "Remove". If I look under "Edit details" I can edit description and pictures but not the changelog.

So to clarify, I get the error message above, I go back and try again. It now says I can't upload the same version. So somehow the app got uploaded but I still got the error page.

I don't want to bump the app again so maybe this was a one time thing. I had this issue with the initial version for several days which did not result in the app being uploaded so I thought it was a genuine issue. Best would be to assume that it just doesn't work to upload and maybe the time it actually got uploaded but still showing the error message might be the weird case here.

I can create a dummy app and do some more testing if it helps progress on this issue.
