App Store Issue Affecting App Purchases on Garmin Fenix 6 Models

Users are experiencing an issue when attempting to purchase the paid version of the Shot Clock app on Garmin Fenix 6 and Fenix 6 Sapphire models. When trying to download the app from the Garmin App Store, they receive an error message stating: “This app requires an update of your Fenix 6. Please use Garmin Express to update your Fenix 6.” However, after following the instructions and connecting their devices to Garmin Express, no updates are available. All affected devices are running firmware version 27.00, which is the latest version.

The paid version of Shot Clock can be accessed here: Paid App. In contrast, the trial version of Shot Clock — available at Trial App — can be downloaded, installed, and run without any issues. The primary difference between these versions is the code indicating trial status, which suggests that the problem may lie with the App Store configuration rather than the app itself.

Notably, this issue has only been seen on the Garmin Fenix 6 and Fenix 6 Sapphire models; the Fenix 6 PRO models are unaffected. The app’s manifest file targets API level 3.4.0, which is correct for the Fenix 6 series, further indicating that the problem likely stems from the App Store’s configuration or its compatibility checks.

Can you investigate the App Store configuration to resolve the error preventing the purchase and download of Shot Clock on the affected models? Given the nature of the problem, this may indicate a broader issue potentially affecting other developers and apps on the Garmin App Store. A screenshot of the error message from the Garmin App Store is attached for reference.

  • I agree with and here. I don't think we should be using abbreviations or any kind of jargon in our docs, so I'm going to file a ticket to have the supported products listed explicitly to avoid ambiguity.

In addition, I also agree that this is a problem because it should not be allowing purchase for devices if they are unsupported. I will confirm that the non-Pro fenix 6 series are not supported (based on internal documentation, they should not be), and then file a ticket to have this addressed.

  • Hi Brandon - sounds like a worthy update so people like me don't get confused.

Something to consider as well is that my users attempted this because I enabled the NON PRO Fenix 6 files in the manifest. Maybe that's something that can be checked on the Garmin side as well when the .iq files are uploaded.
