App now crashes on venu series with firmware update

Starting to get reports that app crashes after a firmware update on venu devices to 12.13

Watch Venu2
Garmin SW-Version 12.13
venu2 and venu2s so far affected. 

in one case running the app again seemed to work. This is not initialisation as was on close down of a test. Other report is on start up

    It gets worse.

    I've tried modifying the code around sensor enablement and I am now in the situation where I have to run the app twice to get interval data on a number of devices. It then works for a period. Th next day it will require two runs again.

    These on device issues (simulator has no issues and no crashes) are almost impossible to debug now as the ability to read the LOG file has been removed (they no longer exist - someone said because of MTP file system). Either the simulator needs to get up with API and firmware iterations or there needs to be better tools for live debug. ERA doesn't report anything of course.
